Hi there

I just got my PA License and it looks just like this guy's but without the photo.

Its a filmsy piece of paper !

Instead of the photo, it says " Valid without photo". makes me wonder why have that space there at all... but everything else is the same, size and all.

I decided to make a copy... So I scanned it in for a copy.... then I was thinking I should make it smaller so it fits in a card slot in my wallet...

so now it looks like this: business card size...

So then I thought, why not fix some things and add a photo ? SO I added a photo of myself..

so then I looked at it and it looked like a photo report card from school, to make it more official looking I put the seal of PA over it....

so finally I had it laminated and it looks like this:

Looks better ? eh ?

It looks wonderful. :) ...and it is probably now completely invalid due to the significant alteration you've performed. Some might even consider it a forgery!

Go ahead and carry that one if it makes you feel better - show it off to your friends. But if I were you, I'd still carry the original and show it to law enforcement if you are ever required to do so.

Just my two cents...

I'd ask the guy who gave it to you if it's ok to laminate so it will last longer for you. I'm sure you could also call up the local PD where you're from and ask them if it's ok. I don't see any reason to make it look pretty. I definately wouldn't photo copy and then superimpose your picture on it. If it was necessary, they would have done that for you.
I have mine from PA, but they gave me one in the traditional drivers liscense style. I guess it just depends what county you get it from. It is rather cheap though b/c some of the info has rubbed off. I think I should get a new one soon.

In Montgomery County, near Philly, you could choose between the "hard", nice one you show above and the flimsy piece of paper. If you had a choice, and you picked the cheap one, that's why yours is different. I think the difference was something like $19 to $40 for the five-year license (worth it, considering my wallet is a death trap for non-monetary paper).

If not, very annoying, but I'd definitely keep the original, because there is a good chance the one you hold is invalid.

I agree with JoshB's suggestions, for the most part.

I'll keep the filmsy piece of paper one somewhere handy for leo's....

but How about the legality if this ?

( took the big one, shrink it down unaltered, and then laminated to fit a credit card size )

I am a non-resident, I ordered mine in the mail for 26 bucks through Centre County. I wasnt offered a plastic one at all, I guess that is how they do it for non-residents. I think I read somewhere that in PA if you were a resident you would indicate your driver license #, and they take the photo that is on file for that.... interesting..

In my county they took a polaroid, laminated the license and sent it to me in the mail. Charged me $20.

Who cares what it looks like, the process is simple and barely a step below Vermont carry. As long as you pass the NICS you are good.

I don't need no stinkin' fancy drivers license thingy!
