PA Gun Law - New Resident Purchasing

Hey all!

I recently moved to PA from NJ and became a PA resident on 2/7/2018.

I applied for my LTC in PA and picked it up today without any issue.

I went to a local gun shop to purchase my first gun as a PA resident and was denied sale due to not being a PA resident for 90+ days.

I have multiple guns and a LTC. I searched online for a while trying to confirm this 90 day rule and can’t find anything that pertains to my situation.

I have lived in the US my entire life.

Can anyone confirm this 90 day residency rule to purchase a firearm in PA?

Thanks in advance for your help, it will hopefully ease my frustration!

No such law or requirement like that in PA, other than being a resident alien I think. In other words, if you move here from another country....not state.....you have to have lived in this country for 90 days.

Was it NICS or the LGS denying the sale?
IF it was the LGS, and there really isn't any such rule or regulation in PA, then maybe you just got a little insight regarding who not to do business with.
Of course the LGS has the final say, as they should.

I can buy a rifle anywhere in the usa (except conn, and some wait period states have a wait), what kind of gun are you unable to purchase in PA? I though PA was pretty "normal" for these things? You never know with gun laws.

I would have already tried another gun shop.

I’ve been working at LGSs for several years now, but I’m new to PA. So I have a very good understanding of federal gun laws but I’m not as knowledgeable when it comes to PA gun laws. That said, the owners of the LGS where I currently work have several decades of combined experience running gun shops in PA. This shop is very well run and everything is done by the book. And so far I haven’t heard of any 90-day residency requirement to buy a gun. I’m fairly certain that if that were actually a real law, the owners would have mentioned it by now.

Just to clarify: For the purposes of buying a firearm under federal law, you became a PA resident the moment you set foot in this state with the intention of living here. And I’m not aware of any PA law that says otherwise, but like I said, I’m not an expert in PA firearms law.
