Tomorrow, the state House of Representatives will vote on H.R. 2799.
The bill contains several troublesome provisions, and even more
troublesome amendments may be offered.

For example, an amendment offered by Representative Williams would
raise the cost of CCW permits in Philadelphia from $19.95 to $154 --
effectively disarming the low-income Philadelphia residents most in
need of protection.

A provision already in the bill would permanently disarm
Pennsylvanians for an offense involving no criminal intent --
carrying a firearm in Philadelphia without a permit.

ACTION: Contact your state rep. Ask him to vote against H.R. 2799
and all anti-gun amendments offered to it. For contact information,
please go to the Gun Owners Legislative Action Center at
http://www.gunowners.org/activism.htm and plug in your zip code under
Elected Officials, then click the State link. Unfortunately, many
PA state representatives do not maintain public e-mail addresses.
But, due to time pressure, phone calls Thursday morning are the best
action to take.

----- SAMPLE COMMUNICATION -----

Dear Representative:

H.R. 2799 would infringe on my rights as a gun owner.

The bill itself would permanently disarm Pennsylvanians for an
offense involving no criminal intent -- carrying a firearm in
Philadelphia.

And a Williams amendment would raise the cost of CCW permits in
Philadelphia from $19.95 to $154 -- effectively disarming the
low-income Philadelphia residents most in need of protection.

Please vote against this bill and any anti-gun amendments offered to
it.

What was the motivation for the legislation? Was it proposed by some anti who wants to decrease the number of people with permits? Is the ccw program losing money and was it proposed by a republican?

The simple solution to "it costs too much" is to move to a VT-style system. PA is a fairly decent place except for Philly... maybe a permitless-carry system is possible.

Philadelphia is the reason I carry a gun.

Doesn't making the local news for 3 days after being attacked by a drunk, drugged up- group of racist thugs, qualify a law abiding citizen of defending himself from future attacks?

WTF

Its Ed Rendell and his merry men at work.

Well I just got back from work, too late to phone Thursday.

Fast Eddie is trying to turn PA into NY. NY tried the same thing but ran into opposition. They wanted something like $275 per year for a permit.

Anyhoo...I will call my legiscritter Friday and let her know my feelings.

Seems like the way that bill is worded Rifles and Shotguns will be illegal in Filthydelphia. Permits are only issued for handguns in PA. No permit needed for longguns.

Didn't Philly try this previously, and get shot down?
