Great site. I just got my ccw and was thinking about getting a pa-63 or a mak,I know that they have a hammer drop safety, but are they safe to carry with a round in the chamber? aiso are they powerful enough with hallow points to be a good carry gun? thanks guys!

If you practice enough to hit what you aim at and are cool under pressure so that your shots will still find the mark, then 9x18 is more than enough. If shot placement is poor, then a 10 gauge slug is not enough.

I like the PA-63 but found them less dependable than the Makarov. I consider accuracy and dependability the senior factors.. Many people consider the Makarov the most dependable pistol ever made... and one of the most accurate.

I found my PA-63 quite reliable, but I admit I have not fired it as much as the Mak. I got 200 consecutive out of it, though, and that is my minimum criteria for a carry gun.

Its reliable enough. However if you hit heavy bone the bullet may not penetrate far enough to do much good.

PRACTICE with your pistol. Good holsters are hard to come by since the PA 63 is not an exact walther copy.

Do a search on Pa-63 and you will see a bunch of threads on the subject.

I've read that a Mak has an unsprung firing pin; not inertial. Is that true? Would you only carry it with the safety on then? Does the PA-63 have a floating pin? I'd rather carry DA safety off.
