P99: NATO, +P and +P+ ammo

I've got a Walther P99 9mm and might have the chance to get a couple of boxes of +P+ carry ammo on the cheap, but don't want to shoot it if it'll batter the hell out of my fine pistol. Yes, to feel comfortable carrying it I will practice with it.

I read that NATO spec ammo is hotter than SAAMI and roughly equates to +P ammo. Is this true?!

How does +P+ ammo compare to NATO / SAAMI?

How much hotter is +P+ from +P?

Please confirm that P99's are rated for +P. What about hotter +P+ ammo?

Earl's Repair Shop replied, "Occasionally using +P no problem in a German P99. Do not use +P+." Therefore, I consider the P99 issue settled.

How do the following rounds compare:
SAAMI
NATO
+P
+P+

+P ammo exhibits up to ten percent higher peak pressure than SAAMI spec for a given cartridge.

+P+ is not to any standard. It is a higher pressure load but no maximum has been designated for a given cartridge.

The plus peak pressures are not an idication of higher bullet performance. They are only a term for relative pressure.

Some maximum pressure loadings demonstrate far lower velocity with a given cartridge and bullet than much lower pressure loads with a different powder.

Here is a good place to get info on ammo:

Calibers

If you go to the bottom of the "Table of Content" you wil find a link to all you would want to know about +P+ ammo.

Hope this helps.

Excellent reading recommendation on calibers @ greent.com, waltherpfive! Wish all of the posts were as informative and professional as yours. Many thanks.
