P99 Decision in Seattle

Dear Walther "believers", I'm looking for advice….

I have an early version of the Walther P99 in 40cal. Like a stormy relationship with a beautiful woman, my Walter and I have been through a lot… Problems with the slide locking open (solved by new springs) a bad gunsmith messing with the trigger system, etc., etc. Long story short, I had the gun ported to reduce the muzzle flip. The quality of the porting job was the best I've ever seen, however, as a result of the porting, it now shots 4" down and 3" to the left @ 20 feet!?!!?! In addition, the porting has caused the front sights to consistently get blown off the handgun. (Resolved by putting on permanent night sights). While still in love with my "beautiful woman", I've got to make some decisions on this Walther. I'm on a budget, so I've got to keep this reasonable. I need your help.

A) If I replace the barrel and install a SpringCo recoil reduction spring it's $195 for the barrel from Earl's Repair and $65 from SpringCo = $260
B) Sell the Walther P99 40cal as is (was quoted $290 plus $20 for each of my 7 magazines) and purchase another 40cal, most likely a M40.
C) Sell the Walther P99 and go to a Walther P99 QA in 9MM ($499+tax), thus eliminating the muzzle flip, keeping all the wonderful features and ergonomics of the P99 series and getting a consist SA trigger pull.
D) Purchase another P99 in 40Cal and get a SpringCo recoil reduction spring. $499+tax + $65 for SpringCo spring.
E) Seek out a good therapist and get over her…..?

What would you suggest……

helopilot, that's a very rough situation to be in. i'm sorry to hear that you had it ported, was the muzzle flip that bad?? anyway, i would suggest getting the barrel from earl and keep a very fine firearm. good luck and keep us posted.

Are you sure it's shooting low and left because of the porting? If it's the porting, I'd have the gunsmith that ported the gun make it right.

toehead,

obviously if he is talking about a new barrel or selling it for a new one, i'd say that suggesting that he get an hk inappropiate. but everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Cut your losses!! Get a HK.
Hasn't the man screwed up enough? Why just add to his misery with an H&K?
:D
I'd buy a new P99, 9mm, standard trigger, and be happy.
IMHO if the .40 recoil is too much, its because you have not shot enough. Instead of porting, recoil reducers, etc. buy more light weight standard pressure ammo, and practice. Get someone to show you the proper grip, and shooting stance, your recoil problems will magically dissapear.

Well adept, was it equally inappropriate for you to offer your opinion that another poster get a P99 when his thread requested advice on the SW99?

The man asked for advice and I gave him my opinion. If you think that is inappropriate....too bad. If you don't have any information for the man(which you didn't) why don't you just STFU!
I was responding to his choice B "selling the gun and getting another .40". I have the USPc40 and love it. Extremely accurate and totally reliable. His whole problem was he didn't like the P99 in the first place...hence the mods. I would not keep throwing good money after bad and I would not start over again with the same gun if I didn't like it to begin with.

Now now, boys. Let's not fight.

Anyway, the Walther has adjustable sights. Though you've put on a permanent front sight, you can certainly replace it or shave it down. The rear sight is adjustable for windage. Try that before you spend any more money.
