I doubt they ever will. Over there, carrying a concealed weapon is frowned upon. Where would the market be, here??? Walther has a hard enough time selling full size P99s as it is!!! Besides, you can get the P5, which is an excellent carry pistol for $600, or so!!!
How can you say Walther has a hard time selling the full size P99s, when they had to have S&W manufacture 4000 .40S&W P99s last year to keep up with demand!?!?
They seem to be selling pretty well from what I've seen .
The P99 is not that much longer than the P5, and is appreciably thinner for concealed carry. And every test I've seen shows the P99 more accurate than P5 (Not that the P5 is a bad pistol).
P99 compact would be nice, maybe 1/2 inch short slide, and 1/2 inch shorter grip.
The P99 is sort of a compact as it is. It's about the same size as a Glock 19/23. It also holds 16+1 rounds in 9mm, and you can still find hi-caps if you look.
A gun any smaller would be in the Glock 26/27 range. It would not have hi-caps because it would be too small, and it would be post ban as well (please, no comments on how Glocks are the guns by which all others are judged; this is only a size comparison ).
Personally, I love my P99. If I were stuck with only one gun, that might be the one I would choose. And as far as I know, they are selling quite well.

I recently emailed walther, it took aboubt 2 weeks but got a response. The are bringing out a P99 subcompact in 2002. I had asked whether a subcompact or compact exists and they offered the above. Best
