P7M8 vs. P7M13, size difference?

I'm going to buy either a P7M8 or a P7M13 very soon. I've handled an M8, but have not been able to handle an M13.

I know this topic has been discussed in previous posts, but I was wondering if someone who owns both, could post some side by side comparison pictures including a picture showing the grip width of both pistols side by side?

I like the M8, but I'm having a hard time justifying spending $1000+ on an 8 round 9mm pistol. Having 13 rounds makes it seem much more worth it!

I have a USP .45 Compact. How does the P7M13 compare to the USP .45 compact in size and weight? Comparison pictures of the P7M13 and the USP .45 Compact would also be helpful. M13s are scarce enough in my area that I haven't come across one yet at any gun shop or show I've gone to, so any information or pictures comparing the sizes of these pistols would be very helpful. Thanks!

The M13 is much thicker through the grip. Other than that the pistols are the same size. I have owned a M8 and it was a fine pistol. The Utah Highway Patrol used to issue the M13s. When they changed to Berettas a lot of M13s were floating around here in Utah. The grip thickness coupled with the squeeze cocker is quite a handfull. I would recommend that you hold one before you consider a purchase. Watch-Six

i use a p7m13 and really have small hands
- it´s no problem and i never tried a m8 in my hands.

p7m8 - 29 mm
p7m13 - 33 mm

-> 4mm and still 5 rounds more :D

In my purely subjective opinion the M8 is far preferable to the M13. My perspective is that the 9x19mm cartridge is best in compact and subcompact guns for concealed carry. In that role I prefer the slim profile and graceful contours of the M8. The M13 strikes me as clunky and awkward. And in that role I don't care too much whether the mag capacity is 8 or 13 rounds. Comfort and handling are more important to me. Also, I find it is easier to conceal spare single-column mags than double column mags.

As for "justifying spending $1000+ on an 8 round 9mm pistol," note that KY Imports has used M8s for less than $1000. IIRC, the VG condition M8s are under $700, the EXC M8s are around $750, and the LNIB are under $900.

Another benefit of the M8 is mags should be cheaper, as there is no issue of paying a premium for pre-ban "high caps."

Remember also that it is really 9 rounds vs 14, if you have one in the pipe and a full mag. I carry an M8 often and still have 3 more rounds than someone with a wheelgun. Carry what you like and are comfortable with.
The M13 will fit the same holsters as an M8, but are more difficult to conceal b/c of the thicker butt.

Thanks for the advice.
I found a picture on HKPro that shows a rear angle of the M13 that gives a pretty good idea of the grip size, but I'd still like to handle one.
I do see the advantages of the M8.
After much research, I'm leaning toward the M8 for many of the reasons discussed in this thread. The cost of 13 round magazines is probably the major deterrent for me right now.
Concealability isn't really an issue right now, but if my state ever decides to legalize self defense, I'd like to be able to easily carry the P7. I'll probably eventually get an M13 anyway. I've been sucked into the H&K Cult ever since I got my HK USP 45 Compact. I know I won't stop at just one P7, besides, I need one to shoot while the other one cools!

Does KY Imports have NIB M8s for under $1000?
I only saw used ones on their site.

In case it's not obvious from the photo, I am a big fan of the single-stack P7s (P7 PSP and P7M8). :)

The KY Imports web-site has had the same ad for at least 6-8 months and they don't update their on-line inventory. Same applies to their ads in ShotGun News. They rotate the same ads every month. The only way to really know what they have in-stock is to call them. I've called on a couple of occasions, they didn't have a P7M8 in stock at the time, but they did have a P7M13. Their stock changes all the time. Hope this is helpful.

I recently bought and then sold a M13, it was not unpleasantly larger than the M8 it just lacked the grace of the M8. The M8 is the top of the pile IMHO.

I just got a new KY Imports catalog in the mail earlier this week. Sadly, I don't have it with me so I can't just open it and check. But IIRC, they have them in VG, EXC, and LNIB ("Like New In Box") conditions at roughly the prices I mentioned above. Give 'em a call!

CobraSJP, the finish on the hard-chromed ones is Tripp Research's CobraChrome. See: http://www.trippresearch.com/

Both have the matte/satin finish, but the P7 PSP has "brushed flats" on the two sides of the slide that give it a polished look. The original blued finish of the two sides of the slide on my P7 PSPs is highly polished, so the "brush flats" preserved this in a way.
