P7M8 stuck

I recently shot 90 rounds through my P7 of reloaded ammo when the pistol jammed. It seems the piston that operates the action was gummed up. Could this be from bullet lube?

Hope you weren't shooting lead...big no no....lube could clog up the hole in the chamber too....run a bent paper clip through it and clean the gas cylinder with the tool...should be fine...

Yes. You aren't supposed to use lead bullets in the P7, only jacketed bullets. After you get the bullet lube out ot the gas ports, go get some new ammo.

The bullet lube in the gas port is not going to make the pistol jam. P7 is gas delayed blowback, not gas operated (like many rifles and DE). Gummed up gas port will only make your slide recoil much faster, creating potential for mischambering. It really should not jam. Do check your drop safety lever. Sometimes it may break and piece of it gets picked up bythe slide and jammed into the rails. That makes the gun freez up. The drop safety lever is a small L shaped metal part that you see on the left side of the breach when you are looking at the slide from the rear.

While it is correct that a blocked port alone won't jam a P7, usually the port blockage goes along with crud filling the small space between the gas piston and tube. This can really delay the blowback and lock up the slide, as described. It seems like the most likely explanation and something easy to test by simply cleaning the gas system and firing jacketed ammo.

It is surprising that someone would buy such a unique and expensive firearm and know nothing about it, like not using lead ammo. It's in the manual and mentioned on most HK forums at some point.

would you happen to be friends with "Redneck2"? He mentioned someone with the exact same problem in this post:

I gave a rather lengthy reply there you might wanna read.

But you've got mail anyway, regarding the Silicone Tipped Full Metal Jacket bullet.

You definitely need to head over to the P7 Bulletin Board.

http://www.parkcitiestactical.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi

then click on "Cult of the P7"

and post your question over there. We'll figure it out. Until then, don't shoot another bullet.

The Piston does not operate the slide, rather it delays the slide.

It's also possible the cylinder may just need cleaning. To do so you absolutely need the P7 Cylinder Cleaning Tool. Anything else risks damanging the tight tolerances of the P7's gas piston.

If the reloaded bullets you shot were Full Metal Jacket bullets (not plated, lead, or other), then that's probably the problem.

You can buy the tool at
http://www.hkpro.com/spcp7parts.htm

it's the "228377 CYLINDER CLEANING TOOL $22.00"
get the "222269 CYLINDER CLEANING BRUSH $10.00" while you're at it.

Did you by any chance buy this gun without a box?

If you bought it with the box, it should be in there.

P7 Lead ammo debacle

I have had no trouble with jacketed ammo with my P7. I am fully aware of H&K's recs against lead ammo. I am also aware that they recommend against reloads, as do most if not all manufacturers. I tried the lead bullets so that I would be able to shoot in the local indoor range that prohibits jacketed ammo. It seems that the lead trial was a failure and could have been avoided had I known about this site earlier.
Talk to you guys later.
Out...

I don't own a P7, so I could be way off here on my ammo recommendation.
If you *must* shoot lead in an indoor range, the Federal NyClad might be an option. I use it in my Glocks because leading in a Glock barrel is a big no-no as well. The NyClad ammo is a solid lead bullet, completely encased in a nylon jacket, designed to reduce airborne lead in indoor ranges. After shooting several hundred through my Glock 17, I had no lead residue in my barrel.
Again, I do not own, nor have I ever shot a P7, so I am not familiar with whether the NyClad ammo is a viable option.
