P7 owners only need reply

I noticed a lot fo you here, like myself, carry the P7 for CCW...just curious...from a standard hip holster IWB or OWB, at what point do you feel comfortable cocking the gun? It feels a little unsure to be squeezing the grip (and adjusting) as I come up to target....in the event of a real life draw for my life, I would hope to already have a firm grip in the holster and not have to shift my grip as I'm coming up...and hopefully, keep my finger off the trigger as it comes up....

As I establish my support w/ weakhand, I sqeeze the grip w/ stronghand. Usually, that is just as I put my P7 on target.

In all honesty, I squeeze the grip when I'm drawing it out of the holster. I carry 1911s and Glocks as well as the P7 so my finger is trained not to go near the trigger, and I don't want my hand to "learn" not to get a really firm grip just because of this weapon.

don't, for the Kraut Staplegun I cock it at #1. Some guys like #3, but like buzz, the KS is not my regular carry weapon. However, the mall ninja should have no fav weapon.

I cock as soon as the gun clears the holster, and is clear of me (ie at about 45 degrees). Trigger finger is kept out of the guard until on target.

Start squeese as soon as you have cleared your body. I ccw with a blade-tech iwb and idpa with an owb. With regular idpa your grip will be sub-conscience, remember to practice running with the pistol un-cocked and only squeese after you have cleared yourself. I fell on a concrete floor several years ago during a competition while moving from one point of cover to another, and the RO said he had heard me de-cock before sweeping my own body. (My RO always wears electronic muffs):)

You should be cocking the gun as soon as it leaves your holster. If you need to take a quick shot from close retention, it had better be ready to shoot from that position. It's all part of the draw stroke that you need to do automatically without thinking. :cool:

Hi DSIM (aka p7newbie!);
For some reason my sequence has changed.
Used to be, I'd squeeze the frontstrap on obtaining a "firing grip" in the holster.
Now, for reasons not understood by me, it seems more natural to squeeze when coming up on target. Dunno why...

I can't bring myself to carry my P7...

I love the danged thing too much to beat the crap out of it through the everyday bump and grind. Now, if I could only find a well-broken in refurb at the exact moment that I have a bunch of cash... ;)

for a quick shot, i squeeze it as i come on target, much like a DA wheelgun
if bringing it up while assessing (building clearing) the situation, i squeeze at the same point i would release the thumb safety on the 1911
