Hello! New to the forum and I am looking for some advice on removing some light rust on my Ruger P345. It is on top of the slide. The rust is light with no physical feeling to it, just visual. It's hard to tell in the picture because it is so light. I just want to be sure and take care of it early. Any input is greatly appreciated.

Use 0000 steel wool, and make sure it's 0000 as it won't hurt the finish of the gun. Sure it's a bead blasted stainless finish, so there is no finish per se, but anything higher than 0000 will start to show light scratches or even start lightly polishing the top of the slide.

^ Good advice. You might also apply a light coat of oil before using the steel wool to further prevent scratching, but with that fine of steel wool you likely won't need it.

Along with the steel wool, I've had very good luck with a product called Flitz, which is a paste type compound, similar to toothpaste. It is a polishing compound, much like steel wool is, so one must be careful in it's application.

I must add that some of those types of stainless steels seem to stain a rusty color much like true rust looks, but it's not necessarily rust. I remember seeing some of the older S&W's and Rugers doing this.

Good luck.

Probably something like Hoppes gun oil?

Yea that would be fine. I say it as a precaution because fine steel wool can be used to remove surface rust off blued metal and the light oil helps prevent blueing loss. Given your bead blasted finish it's likely not a concern but my luck typically stinks so I tend to be over cautious.
