Received a P320 Compact Xchange kit with night sights in 40s&w from the Sig Pro Shop. With a flawless performance from my P320 Subcompact in 9mm, I had to get a larger caliber for the Compact size gun. IMO, the Compact is the perfect do--it -all size. The Xchange kit came in its own Sig plastic box with one 13 round 40s&w magazine made in Italy. One "Medium" size Compact frame. One 40S&W Compact size slide equipped with the excellent Sig night sights.
Slide was in a plastic bag and coated with oil excessively.
After a quick cleaning I was off to my range. The first magazine ever out of the gun and it was right in there. (see pic) Recoil felt like my P229 40. Very easy to control and aim point was exactly like the Subcompact even though the sights were different size for the 40 than the 9mm.
Like my 9mm Subcompact, I tried everything to get this Compact 40 to fail. I first shot junk 165fmj Magtech and they were impressively accurate as I was getting a feel for the medium compact frame.
Next was Federal 180jhp and they were accurate as well. At this point I can safely say this is the most accurate 40S&W Striker I have ever fired. I started to get sloppy and still managed to easily get a good group. bear down and I was stacking bullets. Anywhere you point, you hit.
Next up was the serious stuff. A few of my current favorite defensive loads. Hornady Critical Defense 165FTX at 505ftlbs. Easy recoil and was stacking rounds. At this point the P320 40 Compact was impressing the hell out of me with its light weight and round capacity. 14 rounds of 40S&W in a gun this light and accurate was a easy gun to love. The Winchester 180jhp Bonded shot just as good and I can tell the premium ammo was going to be very consistent with its POI. Fast double taps of the Critical Defense 165ftx would put both rounds almost touching each other.
No trigger issues but since this is the same internals as the Subcompact, it wasn't expected.
Size comparison between the P320 Compact and Subcompact.
To sum it up, ...I love this P320!!! There were no malfunctions out of 300 rounds and all my personal defense ammo shot poi and easily controllable. I limp wristed it, shot with my left hand and couldn't get the 40 to even hick up.
I also had Sig send me a extra 40s&w 13round mag and a Sig retention holster similar to the Blackhawk Serpa. I like my ultra small pistols in 9mm but when I move up to a compact versatile size, I am a 40s&w guy. The Compact is easily the most versatile size frame for most people and with 14 rounds on tap, it is a heck of a choice for any scenario. This gun has official passed with flying colors and is cleared for duty carry for me. Can't wait for the 45acp Xchange kit to finish out the series. Have I mentioned...." I love this P320"
