Review of the Sig P320 Carry, after the trigger upgrade/drop test upgrade. I haven't seen anything comprehensive on this since the upgrade so wanted to add my take. The short version if you have no patience lol.
1) Great accuracy 2) Flawless for 300 rounds 3) Very easy to carry for a gun with 17+1 capacity
Now the longer story. I previously owned a Sig P320 Compact and sold it to free up the funds for another gun I had chased for a while and finally found one available. I immediately regretted the decision and long story short, the other is gone from the stable and this one is back in its place. I went with the Carry this time for a couple reasons. I ordered the Compact grip module from SIg for $35 dollars and a compact 15 rd magazine so it will sit flush. For an extra $60 dollars I now have effectively two guns, 2 17 rd magazines which would be my carry backup mag anyways, and a good bit of versatility. This gun is truly modular, the serial number is attached to the trigger group, not the frame or slide. I could still order a subcompact frame and magazine and add another size down if I wanted to, and probably will.
The main reason I chose to make this such an in depth and lengthy review is this version I have received is the new "upgraded" version with the new trigger and disconnect. I have not seen in gun mags or reviews anyone offering up info on this and it is, distinctly different. For those that have not heard or been given info on, the previous first gen had an issue where if it was dropped perfectly so that the rear slide and bottom of grip frame impacted at the same time with force, the weight of the trigger itself could cause an accidental discharge. It still passed all current national safety drop measures but as we know in the era of social media, small issues become big within a few tweets. I personally found this a little ridiculous because the odds of that happening to my side arm seemed pretty outside the realm of possibility but I get it and can understand the concerns it can generate.
Sig Sauer's answer is to offer a free "upgrade" where they change out the trigger and install a disconnect to make this accidental discharge no longer possible. In most instances this so called "upgrade" would be corporate America covering its ass. In this instance I can attest it actually is.
For those of you who may or may not have heard of Apex Tactical, they are considered a premier company for offering drop in trigger upgrades for many different pistol manufacturers including Glock, S&W, especially the Shield, CZ, Walther, 1911 style pistols and several others. Apex has actually offered to buy back and credit the purchaser for the first gen P320 Curved Advanced Trigger because it is virtually identical to the one that now ships with the current models, in their own words. This to me does equal in in my opinion, an upgraded trigger. Its lightweight, metal with a great pull and a very short reset. Its not a custom 1911 trigger, but its the best trigger pull I have even felt in a striker fired polymer pistol, including, Glocks with custom fitted Ghost Trigger, Springfield Xd's, HK VP9 and several others.
