P229SC Sport Combo....Opinions???

My local shop just got a bunch of these in. They look nice and tempting. But, since I have no prior experience with Sigs(never even shoot one) I figure I better ask around before considering buying one. They are P229SC Sport Combo pistols in the 357Sig caliber. This cased set also includes a 40 S&W slide and barrel and a total of three magazines. Price is $1039.

The one in the pic is the.357sig. The .40 slide does not have the compensator.

Does anyone here own or has shoot one of these. What do you think? Also, what do you think of the price?

Thanks in advance.

I have a 229 sport and think it is great. In 357 sig it is a pussy cat to shoot, especially with 88 grn jhp's. I have chronoed 1680 fps with these loads.

I find the gun accurate, easy to shoot, good trigger and fun (loud!). It always draws a look at the range.

Go over to the Sigforum.com and do a search on the 229 sport. Lots of talk about it over there.

By the way, it is one of the fun guns that I really push my reloads on. Very solidly built!

Sig had a dealer closeout on these guns (P229Sport) for $799.00 last August and they had inventory at that closeout price as late as November. Dealer cost on just a spare Sport barrel and comp is $214 (no slide), plus fitting and shipping (at their insistence). Dealer on a slide alone is well over what the spare Sport barrel and comp cost.

Deal sounds awesome! Where's he at? I want one too!

Dr Avery had them at the Ft Worth show a few weeks ago for $949 and Bachman had them in Houston today for $995. They would be available from Bachman for less to a dealer, that was a 'public' price.

Thanks Guys.

A friend of mine let me shoot his today. He bought the Combo last week at LISC.net. I put a couple of mags through the .357 slide. Overall impressions are very good, 229S is extremely accurate as good as my P7M8. All 10 rounds from first mag went into the same hole. Trigger is excellent and overall ergonomics are not bad at all (for me).

Ok, here's a couple of things I wasn't that crazy about. 10 round mags, I usually avoid getting any hi-cap auto unless I can find plenty of "cheap" decent hi-cap mags for it. In this case if I get the 229 I will most definitely end up spending another couple of hundred for hi-cap mags.

No safety, just a decocker. Not that big a deal mostly a habit thing.

.357 and .40 that's two calibers I don't want.

Overall, I thing it's a great gun and a good deal. However, I think I'll pass and look for a Sig220S - ST instead.

Thanks again everyone.
