P229 Mags: Questions for Sig Owners

Hi Folks,
I love my brand new P229 which I've fitted with Hogue grips for an even better feel in my hand. The gun shoots straight, with never a burp in the 3 boxes of ammo I've put through it so far.

So what's my problem? I can't stand the stock mags that came with my gun. They feel really cheap: the plastic end cap on the bottom of the magazine (I'm sure there is a proper, technical term for it that I don't know) is wobbly, as if it is not firmly attached to the metal of the magazine. Considering how tight and nice everything feels on the gun, it is a shame that my Sig seems to have a subpar feel to the magazine.

So is this to be expected? (This is my first nice handgun). Should I send them back to Sig for service or replacement? Are there aftermarket mags that are better as replacements?

Also I'm interested in getting a larger capacity magazine. 10 rounds is fine, but are there full capacity magazines available for the P229 for non-LEOs like myself? What should I expect to pay for them if they are available? Where would you recommend looking?

I have no problems with the 10 round mags that came with my P229. I will agree that they don't exactly mirror the quality of fit & finish of the gun it's self but they are not what I'd call them cheap or sub-par. The mag butts do have slight "play" in them but it hasn't affected the performance of mine yet. I think that SIG's gun quality just makes you expect tighter mags.

Since you are not in LE, you cannot *legally* buy high cap mags anymore. Thank Clinton for this.

Rainbow, that is not correct. He can't legally buy POSTBAN MANUFACTURED mags, but there are many preban mags for the SIG P229 out there that are perfectly legal to posess, own, and use unless you live in Kommiefornia or Hawaii.
Cullen, you can expect to pay between $75-100 for SIG 229 hicap prebans. Check Shotgun News or go to www.subguns.com or www.sturmgewehr.com and post a Want To Buy ad.

check your next local gun show. expect $75.00 to $100.00 per high cap P229/228 mag. there are not many but they are still out there. there are more for the P226.
