p228 vs p226

The 226 is one of the full size sidearms of the p-series lineup the 210 and 220 are the other two. Barrel length is 4.4 inches. Trigger guard is dished. The 226 was originally a 9mm, but sig has expanded it to accomodate the .40S&W, and .357SIG. The 9mm was originally intended to utilize a 15 round, double column magazine, but now use a 10 round a PC 10 rounder. The .40 and .357 sig also use a 10 round double column magazine. Finishes are blued, two-tone, or "K-Kote" which is supposed to be a more durable finish.

The 228 is a 9mm only compact weapon that has earned the M-11 contract with the armed forces. Trigger guard is rounded, and the barrel length is 3.9 inches. The 228 originally had a 13 round mgazine, but now is sold to us civi's with 10 rounders only. Finish availability is the same as the 226.

Both weapons are very good and are considered to be at the high end of the pistol market. I own a 226 in two-tone 9mm...I love it, best pistol I have ever owned.

Yes, they work fine, but they stick out about 1/2". FWIW, I've had good luck with ProMags hi-caps for both 226 & 228 (@$14.95 from Cheaper than Dirt), it's easy to replace wimpy ProMag springs with Wolffe's. I use tehm at the range, but have had no problems. YMMV. Both great guns, BTW. M2

Hello To All; Both are excellent choice's;
I own both, a two-tone P226 with Siglite
night sight's and a P228 (standard). Both
have their respective purpose's; I like
the 228 for concealed carry when dressed
casual, or in a business suit. The P226
is best served as a "uniform" duty weapon;
or carried in a Bianchi shoulder rig, when
dressed casual/or suit & tie. :)
