P226

After prowling local stores a while, looking for a P320 that I really liked, I found (and bought) a P226. It fits tightly, still looks good, the trigger feels great both SA and DA. What really got me was the snug fit of slide to frame.

$500 was important, too.

It's marked "Made in Germany", which is interesting but not compelling for me. So far I've only cleaned it. My impression is that it hasn't been fired a lot. I look forward to changing that condition.

Did you get the 9mm or the .40?

I had a 9mm P226. It was a good gun, though I did sell it when I needed some money (I already had a 9mm CZ 75B which I will never sell so I was still covered for a full sized 9).

Classic SIGs are some of my favorite guns. My personal preference is the .40S&W P229 and will own another (I sold mine when I needed the money around the time I sold the P226). I loved my P229. I have shot a P239 in .40S&W which was also a terrific gun and a lot of fun to shoot.

I do like SIG's polymer and modular guns. I have a .45ACP P250 Compact, and a 9mm P290RS. I plan to get a SIG P365 as soon as they work out the new design bugs (common with newly introduced polymer SIGs unfortunately). Overall, they are terrific guns. However, they are nowhere near the guns that the all metal classic series SIGs are. The workmanship isn't the same, the quality isn't the same, as accurate as they are the accuracy isn't the same.

I think you did good, and you will have many years of enjoyment out of that gun.

Good find
I love old Sig P200 series, especially the German ones. Side by side you can really tell the difference between the old ones and new ones. The new may function fine but you can tell the short cuts they take now on the little things.

Honestly, considering the great prices used and surplus German-made P226s can be found for these days, I don't know why anyone bothers buying the new ones.

I picked up a West German-marked P226 for $410 last year. Visually, it has some stories to tell, but mechanically, it's flawless.

My first P228 cost me $450 about 13 yrs ago, and the amount of pleasure and learning I got from that gun was priceless. I sold it off like a dumb@$$. A few years later I found another P228 with more holster patina and a better trigger than the first, for $499.00. My P6 cost me all of $319.00. These 2 are sticking with me!

Well, I'd say you guys are an affirmation! Thanks. BTW, the pistol I got is a 9mm. I no longer sneer at the caliber.

Sigs rule

The 226 and 320 are 2 different guns but both great. I have a 229 and the p320 Subcompact for EDC. Love both:)

I wish my bought new in 2012 P226 was marked "Made in Germany". You mentioned how impressed you were with the slide to frame fit - mine is actually quite sloppy not even up to the level of my P239. The newer P226 is reliable and shoots pretty decent but if I had to do it again I would have bought one like yours.

Cannot go wrong with the P226. I have an older West Germany P226 in 9MM and a newer P226 in .357 SIG, both were duty weapons at one time or another and performed very well.

Neither one has give any problems and I would trust my life to both of them any day of the week.
