P226 in .357 SIG caliber?

I'm seriously thinking about making a .357 SIG P226 my next gun purchase. Any opinions or experiences, good or bad? TIA. :)

Can't go wrong with any Sig IMHO. The P226 in .357 is a fine piece, very accurate and reliable just like other Sigs; it's on my list. If you want 12 round mags, you might want to look at the P229.

The .357Sig is a good round and I think it's best feature is it's "better" feeding due to the design. However, .40 is no slouch and shoots great in Sigs. Price of the ammo may differ as well, so you have some decisions to make :)

The P226 is a sweet and accurate service pistol. The only thing that would grate me would be that there are no pre-ban hi-cap mags for the .40 or .357 P226. That's not a huge point, but it is annoying that the pistol can't be used as it was designed. This contrasts with the P229, for which hi-caps are still available, although they've gotten pricey.

Jimmy,

I have a Sig P-226 in .357 Sig -- and I recommend it without ANY reservations. It is a superb pistol: very accurate, excellent design and manufacturing quality, outstanding durability and reliability. I added (for about $200) a Bar-Sto .40 S&W barrel. The P-226 has handled all types of .357 Sig and .40 S&W rounds with absolutely zero problems.

My "bottom line" is extremely simple: you will no go wrong with a P-226.

Impressive posts--thanks. I'm rapidly progressing from "seriously thinking" about this purchase to "must have." :)

RWK:
To shoot .40S&W from a P226 chambered for .357sig, is the only requirement a .40cal barrel? No other changes?
What about the magazine?
Thanks,
Mike/BC

Barrel change is the only thing necessary to go from .40 and .357Sig and vice versa in all the Sigs except the P229S and the P239. The P229S, the sport model, is only available in .357Sig. You can put a .40 barrel in it but since the front sight is on the comp that threads onto the .357Sig barrel, you might have problems aiming.

With the P239, you need a barrel change and a magazine change, something to do with the single stack feed lips having to be different for the different calibers. Otherwise, the other Sigs: P229, P226, SigPro all use the same mags for both calibers and it takes all of ten seconds to change with no modifications, just drops right in. You could also buy a Barsto 9mm barrel so that you can 3 calibers to shoot out of your Sig: 9mm, .40, .357Sig.

I don't think the high prices of "preban" P229 mags are worth the extra 2 rounds. You can put 11 rounds in a P226 15 round 9mm mag and it works fine. Check out www.sigforum.com for more comments.

I echo RWK's comments. I also have a P226 in .357SIG and very highly recommend it. It is extremely accurate, reliable and a pleasure to shoot. Everything about it just feels 'right'. It is easily my favorite handgun.
If you get one, you will not be disappointed.

For Mike Davies:

The ONLY requirement to change a P-226 from .40 S&W to .357 Sig (and visa versa) is an appropriate barrel. I bought a great .40 S&W barrel from Bar-Sto for just under $200. The Sig P-226 magazine design will accommodate either round. This supports KOG's comments.

RWK:
Thanks! I'm very interested in purchasing a P226 chambered in .357sig. The ability to change the caliber to .40cal S&W by just changing the barrel just made it even more interesting! Much appreciated.
