P220 Enhancements

Just read the P220 vs USP45. As much as everyone likes the Sig(me included), I think most would agree that the HK's 45 has a slight edge over the classic Sig. I know that the new Sig's are coming with a better finish nowadays(took long enough). When I shoot the 220 besides a 226, I always find the grips of the double stack 226/228 more pleasing than the single 220.
Don't you guys/gals think that Sig could sell more 45's if they made a 10rnd 220? I'm not really concerned about the addition of those rounds, but more so in maximizing the grip. It just would not make sense to fatten the grip on a new model and leave those extras out.
What product would you want Sig to put out?

Some years ago Jeff Cooper commented that most female shooters and a high percentage of men coming to Gunsite had trouble getting a decent grip on double stack semiautos--and I agree. My hands are on the small side and if the 220 were any bigger I would have a problem.

I am waiting to see if Glock comes out with a single stack duty sized .45 that I can manage. If so I will own one asap.

I *like* the thinner grip of the 220, especially with a full house 230gr load. But a 10 round Sig .45 is appealing.
The wider grip of the 226 doesn't really bother me as it is a meeker round.

You want a fatter P220?

Get houge HANDALL slip on grips AND the Houge rubber grips for the P220.
Take the factory grips off - then put on the SLIP ONs... Then put the Rubber grips on OVER the slip ons... You will need to do a little triming here and there on the slip on... but you'll see.
When you done - that grip will fill even the biggest paws just dandy.

Same here - personally prefer the thinner grip than the double stack fat ones. And ten rounds - we are talking fulll weight, good velocity 45's here? Unless competing in IPSC or something, don't see the point really. And even then with the current fashion towards 24 round stages, not much gained.
Most 'problems' should be sorted out within about six or under - else, would call the circumstances 'desperate' ...
If you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs and blaming it on you... you haven't the slightest idea of the gravity of the situation

George: if I understood you right, you suggest putting the slip-ons UNDER the stock grips? Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that likely to cause serious interference with the trigger bar assy and its spring, possibly making the gun inoperative? When I took the SIG Armorer's course a while back they were adamant about that possibility with aftermarket grips. I share their concerns...

I also have faint interest in 10 rd mags for this gun. I have the 8 rd followers for mine but have never had enough interest to put them in. I would rather have 7 feeding just fine than to push for 8. I know the 7 rounders work just fine. Being a revolver person anyway that gives me 2 more than I am used to plus faster reloads. By that time I have probably solved my problem or found a long gun somewhere.

There is a reason why there aren't too many SIG-smiths out there and a dearth of aftermarket accessories for them. Not much need.

Sig226 grip is too big for my hand to get a proper grip and the slimmer grips on Sig220 is about the max. For me 8+1 rounds of 45 ACP is enough. I just wish Sig would make an short reach trigger for Sig220 like for 226/228/229.

Taco: I reshaped my 220 trigger to approx BHP contours with no real problems and it helped me with that long reach. I have also installed the short triggers in the 226. There is no reason that they could not offer a short trigger for the 220--it's just not their policy...When I shipped the gun in to SIG for a 'trigger enhancement job' they not only did not object but put a nice blue job on it.

BTW, after looking over the areas that they polished for the 'enhancement' I did some further work which helped even more. The cost was reasonable but I don't think they spent too much time in there.

FWIW.
