P220 10mm frame size

On a Sig pistol forum, a member identified that his new P220 10mm had a much larger frame than his experience with other P220 handguns. He indicates that the 10mm is "exponentially" larger than other P220s.

He was having trouble finding holsters, resulting in his last resort being a custom holster.

My experience has been just the opposite. My P220s easily exchange out slides on to the various frames (full size, with and without rail, and carry). I switched the slides on my Match Elite .45 and the 10mm Match Elite reverse 2-tone and easy on, easy off. I did not shoot the guns this way. I did use the .45 magazine in the 10mm, worked well.

Both Galco holsters I use, Silhouette & Quick Slide, work well with both Match Elites.

My guns are both DA/SA versions - do the SAOs have larger frames? I didn't think so, same mags used in both versions.

I have the sig p220 match elite in .45, it's the same size as the 10mm version. I have a desantis thumb break scabbard and it fits the p226 and the 220 match elite.

I have the SAO with wood grip, and think that the wooden grip diameter is greater than the two tone grip I first looked at. Otherwise, the dimensions are the same. Mine is terrific.

Steve: is this the Sig 10mm model you have?

Second question: I too have a .45 p220, along with six of the Sig factory 8-rd mags for it.
Were those what you were using in your 10mm?

And how many rounds of 10mm did those mags hold? More than 8?

Thanks!

Agtman - yes, that's the gun. I used one of my 8rd and one of my 10rd .45 mags in the 10. The 10rd mag would not feed the 1st round if the mag was filled with 10. Other than that, no issues. Only tried them a couple of times each.

I just rec'd an email from Sig indicating the 2 free magazines were being shipped. I sent in the rebate form for the May promotion for a free gun case and magazines in on May 16, got the case before Memorial Day.

Nice gun(s)!

Okay, thanks. Since 10mm/.40 cases are dimensionally less than a .45acp case, I was curious if the 8-rd .45 Sig mag would hold, like, 9 or 10 of the 10mm rounds (?).

Still can't figure a good reason why Sig would design a 10mm mag that's limited to 8-rd capacity.
Seems even with a single-stack design, they could've made it to hold a few more 10mm cartridges.
