P22 Loves Mini-Mags

Just a recommendation to those P22 owners who are having reliability issues: lube it well (think 1911, not Mark II) and feed it CCI Mini-Mags. My finicky gun ran 100% like this today.

A nice plus: Mini-Mags don't cost a whole lot ($3 and change for 100).

I had an Intratec sport 22 that ONLY loved mini-mags.I sold it-i refuse to own a .22lr that won't function reliably with $9.00-500 round bulk packs. But if you P-22 lovers are OK with it thats fine with me.:)

My P22 hates subsonics(won't reliably cycle) and Colibri(won't feed/too short), eats Remington Golden bulk pack just fine. Ate Winchester bulk pack reliably, but accuracy was poorer. Mini-Mag solid or hollowpoints are fine, better accuracy than the bulk ammo.

I recently purchaced the P 22 and love it. In 3 weeks I have put close to 800 rounds through it. I have to agree w/ Shmackey that the Mini-Mags really work the best. I tried several other ammo types and had only marginal sucess with them. The CCI Blazers are just a waste as well as the Federal .22 (standard velocity) My question is are there any hollow points out there that will work in it. I would like to get around to trying some in it. If anyone has any experiences w/ them please let us know.

Not Yet, but thanks for the recomendation. I will give them a try. do they sell them in the 100 brick or just the 500?

Thank You

Use stingers sparingly..They are not recommended by Taurus and could lead to voiding you warrenty...Though all my deallings have been good with them..

The Stinger is considered a hyper and not high velocity...I know two people who have, with a steady diet of hyper, stingers and yellow jackets broke both of their P22's Slide cracks on both. Taurus did replace them but stick to minimags for care and fun shooting.

Hollowpoints

Jay C: prices are rough estimates

CCI Stingers (50 pack, ~$3.50) are HP only
CCI MiniMags (100pk, $4.00) are available as solid or hollow
Aguila HiVelocity (50pk, $1.50) are available solid or hollow
Aguila Super Maximum (50pk, $2.25) are HP only
Remington Golden (500pk, ~$8.00) are HP

I've used all of the above with no issues in the P22, at least 50-100 rounds of each and ~200 Remingtons.

Aguila rounds smell odd when fired, some people don't like it so I'd recommend one box to check your reaction to it. The Super Maximums also have more flash and smoke.

Of course, YMMV. Grab a box of each and try 'em, see what YOUR P22 likes best. Then buy a truckload!
