When did Ackley cease to produce barrels or complete rifles ? A rifle built on a Interarms MARK X action with a barrel marked PO ACKLEY, SLC is in the local a shop and I'm curious of its origin and possible age.
Not exactly sure when Ackley stopped making his guns. I would guess it is at least 20 years old. What is the condition and caliber of the rifle? He had some "ackley improved" cartridges for which he chambered some of his rifles.
This rifle is a standard .30-06. Metal finish is near 99% except a little wear at the muzzle. The monte carlo style stock w/o checkering is not so good. several scratches and chips in the finish. No major damage, just honest use. Markings on the barrel are: EMDEKO PO ACKLEY, SLC.
The last one of these I saw had a Mark X Mauser action made in Birmingham, England. These should be excellent rifles. The Birmingham actions are highly desirable in their own right.
Clemson. Mark X actions were, I believe, made in the former Yugoslavia. The Whitworth was made in Britain using Mark X actions. I had a .300 Win. Mag. Whitworth, made in Birmingham. Real nice rifle. Sometimes I wish I'd kept it.
