+p ammo

I just bought a model 10 with pencil barrel (10-7) . It is a former security revolver with outside wear but seems not to have been shot very much. Is plus p ammo safe to shoot in this revolver. I have a 642 that is not rated for plus p ammo and wanted to be safe with this one.

Yes, your 10-7 is safe to shoot 38 +P ammo. S&W states in their online manual that any S&W 38 revolver steel made from 1957 is ok to shoot 38 +P ammo.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for your reply. I just bought 100 rounds of Remington 125 gr at walmart for 37 dollars-seemed like a decent price for plus p ammo.

I would say any K-frame revolver would safely handle today's +P ammunition. It just isn't all that hot. The much touted +P FBI load is a 158g SWC at 800 fps to 900 fps, depending on barrel length. Back in the day the standard 38 Special load was a 158g RN at 800-850 fps. These days that qualifies as +P.

37 cents a pop...... you really should roll yer own!

You can make them as hot as you would like, too.
