I own a PT111, and I've had many accuracy problems with it which made me send it back to the factory. Look up Taurus PT111 in the search to find many interesting threads, if you haven't already. Since coming home, it has been a little gem, though!!
I talked to Taurus about ammo selection after reading the manual included with my gun. On page 9 it lists their 9mm guns as rated for 124gn fmj at 1225fps. A little below that chart is a warning about +P and +P+, stating that it "...may....exceed the margin of safety built into many pistols......" I asked if this safety margin was smaller on the PT111 than on their other guns?? No real answer was given. Then I read their articles on their web site, where they used 147gn rounds to test the gun! Talk about information not jiving from the same source!
The factory rep said that I would be looking at problems with certain brands of +P in a PT111, but which he wouldn't say!!! Also that the gun would perform fine with 147gn rounds, but that velocities would be affected. Duh?
So, taking my life into my own hands, I ran just about every brand of ammo, 115/124/147gn and standard and +P, through my gun to find the best as far as feeding and accuracy.
The +P rounds kicked like a mule in the little gun. It's a matter of horsepower vs. weight. Put a 600 horsepower motor in a Yugo and you have a metal pretzel, put it in a 2 ton muscle car, ya got a sweet ride! Slide velocity was way higher than with standard rounds, as expected. My ability to control rocoil for follow ups was greatly affected, too.
Forget CorBons. They were a mess in my PT111. Velocities were all over the place, as were the rounds on the target.
The little extra finger thing on the mag helped noticibly with all rounds, though. Good value on that little toy, if you ask me.
Hope that this helps. I decided on 124 HydraShoks due to ease of aquisition, never a jam in 150 rounds, accuracy in my gun, and a noticibly milder recoil than many other rounds.
I hope that this helps.
Tom
