+P ammo safe in old Model 60?

Hello, this is my first post on thid forum, but I have been browsing for sometime. I have an early model 60 .38 spl pinned barrel made approx 1967. I have some 158gr lswchp +P ammo that I would like to use for carry and to shoot on rare occasions. I have plenty of standard pressure 158gr loads for target practice. Is it safe to shoot +P rounds on a very limited basis in this revolver? I would consider purchasing another, but this one has the smoothest action of any j-frame I have ever owned. Thanks

Carried one on and off duty for more years than I care to remember. Must have fired hundreds of 158gr SWCHP +P loads out of it. No problems. I can't advise you to do the same, but I had zero problems. Do what you gotta do.

I have always carried +P in my older J frames I have a mod 49 at present and its packing 158 +P I just shoot a limited number. .

I have a model 60 circa 1970 or so and to answer your question ,yes, at least I havent had any problems so far.

I've always been coached that it was fine for occasional shooting in the steel/ stainless J frames but should be avoided in the pre-Jmag alloy framed guns .

In a steel gun like the 60 you should have no problems if you keep the rounds to a reasonable number. Ammo manufactuers have backed off on pressure in recent years, so even the +P rounds of today are very little heavier than the standard pressure rounds of 30 years ago. For carry purposes I wouldn't hesitate to use +Ps.
