P-14 45 or Kimber target?

Iam trying to decide between a Para-ordanance p 14-45 limited and a Kimber classic stainless target a local shop has. I have no experiance with either of these pistols I have only owned the Colts.
I want it for practical pistol matches that I attend. I have several carry guns,so thats not an issue.
Are either of these more reliable,or more accurate out of the box than the other? Any oppinions from those experianced with these would be appreciated. Thank you

Faced the same dilemma recently. Bought the P-14 LTD shot it and traded it for a Springfield Trophy Match. I love this gun. I shoot this gun far better than any that I own. Accuracy is phenomenal, functions flawlessly, and superb quality. The Para never felt quite right to me, even after I changed the grip safety, trigger, MSH, and had the wonderful finish on the frame replace w/ bluing after it rusted. The wide grip felt unatural. With my Trophy, I managed a 4.8 sec time on the 5 plates. This gun is scary fast, can't wait to work up some reloads.

Hope this helps
Mike

PS I am looking for a Commander to replace my G23 as a carry weapon. It is narrowed down to a Colt 1991 or the Kimber Pro Carry.

If the P-14 fits your hand well, I would go with it. If the wide grip feels a bit fat in your hand, the single stack will serve you better in the long run. It's that simple.

I own a Kimber Classic Stainless Target. Very accurate and reliable. After several thousand rounds, 3+ years of IDPA, no failures of any kind. It was a little ammo sensitive at first. Still doesn't like long loaded ammo. No Para I have seen has held up like this straight from the factory.

But then again, I am a single stack kind of guy. :)

I vote Kimber

I'm a bit biased but I like Kimber much better. I am not fond of the way the Para feels in my hand. Also, don't know much about their accuracy--they may be quite good. I know the Kimbers are.

The Kimber is more likely to work out of the box. Para's basic design appears to be sound - quite a few people use them and are happy - but their QC is spotty. From my observations Para has put out a large percentage of "lemons."

I've owned and shot 1911's for 30 years. The Kimber Stainless Target I bought is probably the finest 1911 style pistol I've fired, including my National Match Colt.
It's extremely accurate, has NEVER jammed, and is much nicer than Colt, Springfield, etc.
My vote goes to Kimber.

Thanks guys, I appreciate all the input.
Iam probably going to go with the KImber, but now Im trying to decide if I would be able to raise a little extra money and get the stainless gold match.
Thank you again for your help.

If you are looking for a straight target pistol, the Kimber would be a better choice. Paras are mil spec.

I will say this about Kimber and Para.

My compadre George had a the SS National Match Target Gold Classic (or whatever name they call their top end target pistol ;)) and we were shooting side @ 50'. I had my Para P13 and the group size was marginally bigger in my P13. IMO the group size was not enough to justify the $500 dollar difference between his Kimber and my para P13.

I have never had a problem with my P12, P13 or P16 in reliability that wasn't traced to light loads after extensive firing or a tight barrel link on a BarSto 400 CorBon barrel.

Had a P14-45. Total unfixable POS jamomatic.

Had a Kimber Target. It worked well.

Scientific? No. But there is no doubt which one I'd buy again and which I'd avoid.

I live in Paraguay, and we don't have that silly 10 round limit, so we love Paras. All the ones I've tried have been very reliable and accurate, and I like the grip shape. Their QC does fluctuates, and sometimes their internals have some small problems, but overall I like them very much and think they are great for the money. I don't have any experience with the Kimbers, so I can't compare the two.

Why pay the extra for a Gold Match over a Target? All you get is some exterior finish work. Nothing is different on the inside, and that's where it counts. You can get a Stainless Target, some after market stocks, and some good magazines, for the price of a Gold Match. They do not shoot any better, just look a little better, and only to some people. I would not trade my Stainless Target for a Gold Match.

Thanks alot guys. I think the Stainless Target will be the way to go . A local shop has a used one for $700.00 and I can always send it to Novac for any additional "tuning" need that should arise.
Thanks again Safe shooting
