if you are a fan of the luger pistol, could you tell me a few selling points on why i should get one, or if you choose why i shouldn't get one. I don't know much about them other then they are supposably dirt sensitive, and they look neat.

Research first.
There are so many variants and the prices run the gamut from a couple hundred to thousands. Glean all the knowledge you can so as to protect yourself.

They are neat guns.

My first P-O8 was a 1913 Erfurt in about 95% condition. Thus firing it was always a bit nerve racking due to the possibility of broken parts that couldn't be replaced without lowering the value sugnificantly.I loved that baby so much that I traded it to someone that knew it's proper place for two SHOOTERS.The basic design of the pistol is a work of genius.Yes they are dirt sensitive in a battle sense, however now days you're not going to be in the trenches with it.The grip angle is,what can I say, just like pointing your finger. If you just want a luger for shooting, they run in the shooters range from about 300.00 to 500.00.They wont be collectors quality because most of the numbers wont be matching.(Matching numbers on lugers are the key). These guns were basically hand fitted, and not all parts interchange with reliability.Check out the luger forum for some great info. They are COOL guns man!!

Thanks for the link Alamo! I'm a solid 9mm fan, but I only own a couple of Ruger P-89's and a Witness(polymer) in that caliber. I've really been wanting a Luger for a couple of years now. A good friend of mine who is Jewish planted the "Luger Bug" in my bonnet! This could lead to some serious trouble(and loss of funds!)
Thanks, Your Buddy,

Lugers are gorgeous guns, and their unique design is fascinating to anyone with an interest machinery. They are obsolete as a combat weapon, and yes they can be very temperamental at the firing range, but any true gun lover has to have at least one!

Much fun to shoot, look at, fondle, etc. My Luger is a .30, which makes even loading for it an adventure. As long as the ammo is powerful enough, and the rounds move freely in the mag, it is very reliable. Accuracy is quite good. The sights aren't "fast", but they are good. Triggers can be horrible, but they can also be fixed.

The Luger was produced in an age where skilled hand work was cheap and it dates from the dawn of smokeless powder and is one of the earliest pistols to use autoloading which was discovered only a decade or so before.
