Overtightening savage non-wedge stock...?

So I took apart my savage FCP-K to fully clean it out. I know the accustock with the wedge are notorious for being a pain to put back together as you have to torque it just right or you will lose alot of accuracy.

To my surprise I had no accuwedge and after some research I have their newer model accustock with no wedge. So I decided to put it back together with the correct torque specs anyways. I drove all around town until I finally found a palce that carries in-pound torque driver and not ft-pound( you need them to be 40 in-pounds). I set the driver to 20 in-pounds to start the front screw off(the one in front of the magazine) and it kept screwing and screwing until I knew for SURE that it was overtightening. So I tried to untighten the screw and its so in there that I ended up stripping the bolt. The POS torque driver must have been a faulty one. So now I got the screw in there and have tried everything and can not get it out. I tried working the bolt and it works flawlessly, meaning the screw didnt go in to far. I don't plan on opening it up for a while, because it looks like the only thing that I can't access without opening is the trigger assembly, which I do not think needs much cleaning ever.

So LONG STORY SHORT does it matter (for accuracy)if you overtighten the stock bolts as long as you don't have the accuwedge model? I tried running a paper under the barrel and its still fully floated, and the bolt works flawlessly.

Any suggestions or knowledge on this would be appreciated.

Really? I never torgue my "accuwedge" screw. I always take the stock off when cleaning and just hand tighten it. It has never shot any different.

You must be lucky then, I have read countless threads on it changing Point of impact but even worse group sizings. I'm not talking from 1moa to 5 moa differences, but from .5moa rifles going to 1-1.5moa

So sounds like it doesn't really matter than... Good that makes me feel alot better! I'll probably eventually call savage and order anther screw and replace it but if it's not detrimental to performance I'm in no rush

I just did mine last week FVSS in 223. It did change POI,but after resighting scope she is more accurate now than it was. When i first took it apart(to set accutrigger). The front screw was so loose i could have taken it out by hand almost. Set trigger to 1 lb or less(not sure).Pulls very, very easy. snugged it up and away i went. Shoots great
