over sized barrel channel

received my Rimrock stock for a Enfield P17, 14 and assuming for my Rem 30 Express. I am awaiting my barreled action but I have noted the barrel channel is quite over sized. For the time being just for grins I took a barreled action Rem 1917 and set it somewhat in the stock to see exactly the amount of excess gap--quite abit. These stocks are supposed to be 95% fit and no problem with that. What do or what can I do to fill in the oversize or is this done. Be a shame to buy a #4 or #5 contour to fit the stock:eek:

Being synthetic what is norm for this? Rough with 80# sandpaper and use release agent (Mothers carnuba) and lay in MarineTex(my past preference) and free-float? Sounds too good to be true.

advice welcomed

sir, this desirable feature is just abit oversize as I previously mentioned. I understand 1/8th inch or so on each side of the chamber and bbl. Thanks for the tip anyways on the "search" on free floating.

bbl. channel

Dear Sir:
Most of the real professional Viet Nam snipers wanted at least 1/8th inch on each side of their bbl's. Reason being that they could use a thin reed or rag to keep the bbl. from touching the stock. Free-floating bbls. are ideal and assure the bbl. to vibrate freely. If one side did touch anything it ruined accuracy.
A friend - a sniper in that country - wants the guns I build him to be free floated like yours.
