Guns morph women to beasts

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I read Stephanie Madison's "commentary," and you can color me appalled. I do not know what troubled me more, her victimization of a disadvantaged member of society, or her embrace of the patriarchy's pseudo-empowerment through firearms.

How traumatized the alleged intruder must have been to find himself staring into the barrel of a loaded weapon. I hope with the help of an enlightened attorney, this victim of capitalist oppression will sue Ms. Madison for intentional infliction of emotional distress and take her for every penny in her possession. She is the one who ought to be behind bars. She is the one who threatened him with deadly force.

At the same time, I feel sorrow for Ms. Madison. Yes, you read right, I said sorrow. Instead of embracing a proper, collectivist vision of female empowerment, such as that embodied by Hillary Clinton, Madison instead sells out her womanhood and embraces the oppression of the white male power-structure. Instead of trusting the community to protect her, she selfishly takes it upon herself. Instead of depending on compassion and social justice to eliminate violence, she instead becomes a perpetrator of violence. The insatiable hunger of the right-wing conspiracy now turns women against their own nature and seduces them into embracing its only brutal hierarchy, where the strong and armed hold power over the weak and disenfranchised.

The idea that one can protect oneself is merely another falsehood put out by the patriarchy to oppress women. Only an enlightened and compassionate government should be entrusted with firearms.

I think the guy was being sarcastic. At least, that's the feeling I got. Maybe that's just wishful thinking. If not, the herd DEFINITELY needs to some thinning.

Sounds a bit on the sarcastic side to me.
But just in case it is intended to be taken at face value;

Hay Paul! Can you say "Joan of Arc"?
And how about any mother protecting her children, I wouldn't want to be subjected to that kind of violence, of course it would be their own nature so I'm sure you'd voulenteer to stand in the way.

It's a joke.

Beside Joan of Arc probably was schizophrenic.
At least that's what the psychobabble in school said.

:)

even if it was a joke, even if he was just being sarcastic, the reply was...

Gunning against firearms

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I loved the e-mail from Paul Ruttiger, and have a few comments of my own:

Ruttiger: "her victimization of a disadvantaged member of society."
Me: Who happened to invade her house!!!

Ruttiger: "or her embrace of the patriarchy's pseudo-empowerment through firearms."
Me: What the hell does that mean? What leftist manifesto did that come from??

Ruttiger: "How traumatized the alleged intruder must have been."
Me: I'll bet! "alleged" indeed, she confronted him IN the house! How can you "allege" that he was elsewhere?

Ruttiger: "this victim of capitalist oppression."
Me: So he is oppressed by capitalism? That means he will not/can not find work? That makes him a social pariah, and under socialism/communism/fascism he should be in a mental hospital so that he can recover from the nasty oppression?

Ruttiger: "She is the one who ought to be behind bars. She is the one who threatened him with deadly force."
Me: Deny everything, admit nothing, scream like you are the one hurt! Yeah, my kids did this until they found out that I wouldn't put up with it.

Ruttiger: "Madison instead sells out her womanhood and embraces the oppression of the white male power-structure."
Me: Under the circumstances she was confronted with, you advocate that she go "legs up" and give the intruder whatever he wanted. Hmmm, can we send this guy to visit your mother?

Ruttiger: "Instead of trusting the community to protect her, she selfishly takes it upon herself."
Me: Yeah right, like the police are going to be there any time soon.

Ruttiger: "Instead of depending on compassion and social justice to eliminate violence, she instead becomes a perpetrator of violence."
Me: Compassion and social justice do not exist when the gates have been breached, and as for "she instead becomes a perpetrator of violence," you are just mad because she beat him to it!

Ruttiger: "The insatiable hunger of the right-wing conspiracy now turns women against their own nature and seduces them into embracing its only brutal hierarchy, where the strong and armed hold power over the weak and disenfranchised."
Me: So the intruder (a male) is now "weak and disenfranchised"? Gimme a frigging break!

Ruttiger: "Only an enlightened and compassionate government should be entrusted with firearms."
Me: "enlightened and compassionate government," now THERE is an oxymoron if I EVER heard one!!

Sarcasm, though it's pretty close to how some of those folks really talk.
Studies have shown that only about a third of the population understands irony or sarcasm. In my experience as a teacher that's about right. I never use irony or satire in teaching, because about half or more of the students will think I'm serious.

Very well-crafted sarcasm
(that's why we are here discussing it!)

The closer sarcasm gets to the truth, the more it is effective.
