outlandish read, perhaps BUT look at past performance

The following may strike you as something from ancient times. Before drawing any firm conclusions, take a good look at the past performances of Clinton et al.

***Clinton To Register Guns By Executive Order***

National registration of all firearms as well as national
registration (often called licensing) of owners of firearms
will begin no later than January 20, 2001. It's not going to
happen because of a law Congress will pass, but because
of an executive order President Clinton will soon issue - the
action of one man. He will most likely issue the executive
order just after the upcoming presidential election regardless
of who wins.

If you think my prediction is far-fetched, think again.
President Clinton and his supporters desperately want all
firearms and all owners of firearms in the U.S. to be
registered with the federal government. They desperately
need national registration because, as we all know, what
they truly want is national confiscation of firearms. National
confiscation of firearms happened in Mao's China, Stalin's
and Gorbachev's Soviet Union, Hitler's Germany, Pol Pot's
Cambodia, and Castro's Cuba. Is Clinton's America next?

President Clinton and his supporters will continue to actively
push Congress for so-called "reasonable, common sense"
gun-control legislation. However, when President Clinton and his
supporters don't get what they want from Congress in the proper
constitutional legislative process, he will spit on the
Constitution by issuing an executive order to get what they want
anyway. He's done it before and he'll do it again.

Don't take my word for it. Take the Clinton administration's
word for it. Interior Secretary Bruce Babbitt said, "We've
switched the rules of the game. We're not trying to do anything
legislatively." [The Washington Times, June 14, 1999] Since
President Clinton has grabbed millions of acres of land in the
Midwest and West by issuing executive orders, why would he
hesitate to issue an executive order to grab millions of guns?

Secretary Babbitt warned us in June of 1999. John Podesta,
President Clinton's chief of staff, also warned us in November
of 1999. "White House Chief of Staff John Podesta, frustrated
with the balky Republican Congress, thinks it's time for
President Clinton to show who's boss. How? Clinton plans a
series of executive orders and changes to federal rules that he
can sign in to law without first getting the OK from GOP
naysayers. Since it's Podesta's idea, aides have dubbed it
'Project Podesta.' The namesake told our Kenneth T. Walsh:
'There's a pretty wide sweep of things we're looking to do, and
we're going to be very aggressive in pursuing it.'" [Paul Bedard,
U.S. News Online, November 1, 1999]

Paul Begala, as a senior adviser to President Clinton in 1998, gave
us a big hint when he said, "Stroke of the pen. Law of the Land.
Kinda cool." [The New York Times, July 5, 1998]

No, it's NOT cool!!!!

Legislation that will stop President Clinton in his tracks and
prevent future presidents from acting like kings is now pending in
the U.S. House and U.S.Senate.

Write your congressional delegation today, or get ready to hand
over your firearms tomorrow.

Click on http://www.executiveorders.org for an easy way to write
your congressional delegation and for extensive background
information about executive orders.

That should certainly cause massive widespread civil disobedience. Sine the RCMP estimates that ther will be less than 10 percent compliance with the Canadian registration law, imagine what it would be like here.

Before talking about non-coimpliance and that sort of thing, has anyone checked the blue link, part of the article?? Proposed Senate and House legislation as follows S. 1795, HR 2655

I don't think that the Klinton will have the nads to try anything like this. If he was to sign and executive order mandating federal gun registration and licensing, it will be frozen in the courts before the ink dries.Klinton is good at running on the razors edge, but even he should realize this will not fly. Also, such an order would just about kill Woody Al's chances at the big house. Bill probably doesn't care about Al, but the DNC does.

Somehow everyone on TFL needs to get to that website listed above and sign the petition. We need to limit the power of the president. While we were all sleeping, Klinton expanded his power beyond the scope of what anyone could have imagined.

that's about enough of that crap. as U.S. citizens we are not subject to the orders of the executive branch. unless he declares marshal law or some other garbage state of emergency we don't have to do squat he says. only the U.S. military, federal agencies and the national guard (if they are nationalized) are under heir Clinton's direct orders.
repeat after me
Clinton's almost gone
Bush for president
Clinton's almost gone
Bush for president.....

DONE! Thanks for tipping me off, if you want a real education go to www.askjeeves.com and just type in "Where can I find a copy of Executive orders signed by Bill Clinton". It is an eye opening read particularly one that he signed in May of 98. It was rescended in September. My hope is that he will get too close to Chernobyl while he is visiting Russia!

JHG:

Assuming you "asked Jeeves" by clicking on the link sumabich furnished, it should work, if you followed instructions.

I didn't ask the question exactly as listed, as I recall, I asked for Executive Orders signed by President Clinton.

I got a listing of executive orders, and amendments thereto. I assume that clicking on the title of a particular order would have brought up the text.

Be careful with your keyboard, computers are very literal things, actually they "know" what you keyed in, rightly or wrongly, and NOTHING more.

For instance, you are sending an email. The address is lower case. You type a single letter, anywhere in upper case, and your mail program cannot "find" the address. It looks for EXACTLY what you typed in, and only that.

Hope this helps.

I went to the Executive Orders website and emailed my Senators and my representative, urging them to support S-1795. We need to stop this power monger Klinton while we still can!!!!! RKBA!!!!

In canada we have had licensing for posession and buying rifles and handguns since 1978, handgun registration since 1930's. Nobody in our country has had there firearms confiscated by useing them in a responsible way. Our licensing system was overhauled in 1998 which requires applicants to undergo extensive screening and mulitply reference checks. There is a spousal section of the application where you must list all relationship you have had in a 2 year period, they check everybody and if a ex-girlfriend or wife tells them they feel uncomfortable with you owning guns they governments rejects your application. To get a license you must have a super-clean record over the last 5 years. It may seem to be a bunch of red tape but it does get the job done in flagging undirables. Once you get a license there is no more questions, go shopping, if you want to buy a 100 guns at the same time go ahead, they dont question you and it is fast, I can go to the gun dealer, put my money down on a handgun and walk out a 1/2 hour later. There you have my experience with licensing and registration.

bigbore, I dont know what country you live in but it sure aint Canada. You might be able to walk out in half and hour, but you sure as hell wont be carrying your new handgun with you. At best it takes 24 hours and Ive never had one take less than 48 hours just to get the TAN. Then you need the ATT (Authorization to Transport) that needs to be done seperate from the TAN (Transfer Authorization Number)

Your message to this thread makes it seem like everything is kewl up here and the registration system is A-OK, well I disagree. It sucks, and is a major screwup, (sit down and read bill C68 sometime to see what I mean) I for one, and Im not alone, feel that spending 500 million dollars to register our guns is just plain STUPID, I also feel that paying an 80 dollar tax every five years, just so I can own and aquire "restricted firearms" as well as a 25 dollar tax every time I transfer one of my firearms is crap. This registration system up here is a joke, and will accomplish nothing in the way of safety (up here its not "for the children" its for "safety") I'm glad you had such a postive pleasent experiance with the new gun grabbing scheme .....

Walk out with a handgun in 30 minutes LOL....

big bore:

I could be wrong, but it strikes me that your post is somewhat "off point", PLEASE READ ON.

That aside, I have very limited experience in/with Canada, other than now and then, short vists, a matter of a few days at most, and I was not buying anything there other than hotel accomodations, booze, food, and gasoline.

You seem to be content with the existing laws/proceedures in Canada, your country?? Obviously, not every Canadian agrees with you, several of them have commented on this web site, and on others too.

My original post amounted to a forward of an opinion piece. Aside from that, in this country, we have to view the past performances of President Clinton, and his antics, as well as those of his administration, including what they have had to say on various matters.

Finally, any number of Canadians, including yourself might be at least reasonably content with the Canadian System. This however has nothing to do with the acceptability of it, or anything like it, in another country.

In passing, I note that Canada has an Offical Secrets Act, which they might have adopted from Great Britain. In the U.S., we get along fairly well without one. Proves nothing other than what MIGHT be acceptable or workable in any given country, might amount to the worst possible mess in another.

From what I've read of C-68, there is a great difference between what you described, and the way it actually works. I might have "misunderstood" something therein, but that's the way it appeared to me, and that includes "investigation of past relationships", which you mentioned.
