Out of state purchase in Indiana?

There's a guy in Indiana that has a shotgun I'd like. Nothing special, but it's one that I want and it's a private sale. Federal law forbids a person who is prohibited in his own state from purchasing a firearm in another state. I'm not "prohibited" by any means. But does anyone know Indiana law on this? Is it ok to head down there, pay cash and come home?

A second question: is this nuts? I can get the same gun for maybe $80 less here in Wisconsin from an FFL in town, but I'm becoming more paranoid about the FBI "instant checks." This would be a 12 hour drive round trip.

Hmm. If its a long gun, I don't see any problems. I went into MI to buy a Steyr SSG and brought it back to OH. The dealer mearly considered it an over the counter long gun sale. Also, I had purchase my Galil at the Indy show a few years ago and brought it back to OH. Now these were bought from dealers. I don't see any problems with private sales unless IN has new laws against them like the 'gunshow loophole' laws I'm not aware of.
