On the packaging of the cleaning kit it says that it cleans .30/.308/30-30/30-06/7mm/7.62

Isn't 7mm .280? Wouldn't the bore brush potentially damage the barrel?

A bore brush will not damage a barrel-the brush material is entirely softer than the metal in a barrel. If a brush could ruin a barrel-just imagine what a bullet would do.

I guess what I should be asking is am I better off using a .270/7mm brush or the .30 brush? I know the bristles will end up shaping to the barrel since it's slightly oversized but will it clean better as well then? Haven't shot the rifle yet but I always clean my firearms after I shoot. I don't think I need to put a bore brush to it before I start, just a bore snake to maybe clean out any debris or fouling from factory testing.

My first rifle I started out with one of those cleaning kit , came with a three piece aluminum rod . O k in a pinch but if your concerned about barrel get yourself a one piece coated rod , J.Dewey is a good rod an get a brush & jag for your caliber , used with a bore guide. Keep that rifle clean.
