Others PARA-ORDNANCE Experience?

My favorited 1911 is currently my Kimber Lt. Wt. Compact which is very well made and accurate. I was in a shop yesterday and handled a Para P13 which was about the same size but w/ the double stack mag.

While comparing the two I was surprised to see that the grip of my Kimber w/ Hogue Finger-grooves, was the same width as the Para, only mine was slimmer as it came to the front strap. I had always thought the Para would be too wide for my comfort level for CCW, but now I dont neccessarily think so.

I'd appreciate some thoughts from you who have carried and shot both. Does the Para really shoot as well as the Kimber, on average? They seem to be close to the same price and the para holds more rounds.
My Kimber is prettier but that's not my 1st priority for a carry piece. What do you guys think(know)?

Thanks,

Dave

I have had a P13 for about 5 years .It is accurate never jams and shows hardly any wear after 15,000 + rounds through it.It is a toss up among those 2 ,I have both and like both of them (hard to say which i relly like the best they are great guns for the money.

Heard on Wednesday, that Green Top Sporting Goods in Glen Allen, VA had P-13's and P-10's on sale for $399, NIB. :D

Own & shoot a P-16 & a LDA D-16 - OUTSTANDING! :)

I've had my P-13 for about 3 years and after about 500 rounds it will break in and shoot well.
They are well made and feed about everything you can give them.
I have the high cap mags, but use the 10 rounders for plinking.
You will be happy with this gun.

I've got a stainless steel P13.45, and I love it. Of my 15 guns, I'd say that the Para-Ord is my favorite. 13 rounds of .45 in a mid-size frame is a lot of firepower. It's deadly accurate. It doesn't jam. And personally I like the way it looks better than the Kimbers (I don't care for the forward slide serrations, but if you do you can get the Para-Ord "Limited" series). Get it, you'll be happy.

I have a P13 alloy frame. It is a great gun. I also have a Kimber. Between the two I would choose the Para.

Thanks for the great responses, guys. I really appreciate it.
I forgot to mention that I'm waiting for the P13 to come out in LDA, uming they will offer all or most of their pistols in that mode.
HS, how do you like your LDA compared to your standard Para? I dont think it is a lot safer than ed-and-locked, but w/ a 3yr. old running around every little bit might help.
Thanks Again,
Dave

Dave the LDA does have the "normal" thumb safety too !
So it can be carried in cond. 1 :D

With lotsa practice I now can shoot it almost as fast as my P-16. :)

Quite a bit of dry firing at the TV set helped ! ;)

I HAVE A P-16 .40 LIMITED AND A P-14 .40 AND THE ARE MY FAVORITE PISTOLS TO SHOOT. BUT PLEASE GET RID OF THE POLYMER MAG RELEASE. I BOUGHT THE STANDARD STAINLESS STEEL FOR THE P-14 AND THE EXTENDED ONE FOR MY P-16 PERFECTION!

HS: I played with a P14.45LDA at the gun show today. It does have the standard thumb safety. I actually didn't look to see if it had the safety on the backstrap, but I assume it did.

It's weird. Very similar to the Glock. First shot is double action as you'd expect, but if you try to dry fire it again a second time it won't work. You have to cock it back to get a second shot. Thus, it's not really a true DA/SA.

Mind you, not saying I didn't like it. The trigger felt nice and smooth. I'm just saying it's weird.
