other 223 options?

Okay, so this was inspired by http://www.thefiringline.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=64585.

Several people there (including me) have noted that the current .223 offereings are admittedly poor (well, the affordable ones, anyway..)

Here're some questions:
1) Has anyone ever produced a FAL scaled down to .223?
2) Why no M1A in .223 (mini-14 being pitiful in many ways)?

How cheap can something good other than an AR be found?
(Why no AR? because we all know what's out there... nothing too much against it, just want variety!)

Thanks for bringing up Rob Arm. I know they're reputation is excellent and that everyone loves their products. If I were to buy something now, it would probably be a VEPR.

HOWEVER, I don't want this to turn into another Rob Arm love fest.. isn't there anything else?
