I didn't see this movie when it was first released. Not unusual. It's a rare day when Miriam and I go out to the movies. The all too oft combination of too small screen, inadequate projector lamp illumination, crappy, poorly balanced and often off the scale LOUD sound, broken chairs and... worst of all... LOUSY popcorn, make our treks to the local megaplexe's quite infrequent.

I had heard the movie was very, very good. Best Buy had the newly released DVD on sale for $15.99. I bought it, and... well....

.... WOW!

For those who have seen it, I won't bore you with details. For those who haven't seen it, I suggest buy or rent and enjoy.

One thing I can't fathom - how could any pro big government, anti-firearm, anti-self defense type person watch that movie, enjoy it, and emerge with their beliefs intact?

Ah, well. It's a REAL good movie, and I'm a little slow sometimes. :)

Answer: Cause its just a movie. (Unless it supports their views then its a docu-drama with names changed!)

Coincidentally, My wife came back from shopping at WallyWorld yesterday and handed me a copy of Braveheart. BTW, this is the wife I met at a gun show,WORKING there, who bought me a Custom Spanish 12 ga side by side for our first anniversary, and an Al Mar Featherweight Lockback Folder for the next Valentine's Day. Like the tv guy said, I think I'll keep her!

Glad you liked the movie ... one of my favorites as well. My only gripe is the license they took with the true story of William Wallace. They probably could have told just as good a story by staying closer to the actual history of the man, as known.

Try 'The Patriot' now. Not quite as good, IMHO, but still a great flick.

And, as to your question .... 'because we're more civilized these days, and no longer need weapons'. Yeah, I know ... doesn't make much sense, but ... I hear that one all the time. I suppose the people in Bosnia, Cambodia, Rwanda, etc. didn't hear about how civilized man is these days ... not to mention American victims of violence.

The Irish guy is one of the best screen personalities of the last century ;)

One of these days, if I get around to it, I just have to convert his little pre battle ditty about the Almighty to a .wav file to open my Windows with ;) For right now though, I just keep thinkng, every time Windows 98 appears on the screen, "You're *****" ;)

Cliff, it is one of my all time favorites. I have the wide screen version on my DVD and it, well, you know, gets me a little misty eyed at the end :( .

It's funny, for that last few years, when watching the Academy Awards, after hearing the winner of the Best Picture award, my reaction is to say, "What? THAT was no Braveheart!" In many ways it has become my standard to judge great movies. Other great recent movies up there are Saving Private Ryan(I still can't see how Shakespear in Love beat this one), and Return With Honor.

Hands Down
My favorite movie of all time.
When I feel like s*** I watch it, when i need some motivation, I watch it.
I usually don't like seeing movies over and over but Braveheart never gets old. I even bought both of the soundtracks.
If you guys like movies with Celtic themes, try ROB ROY with Liam Neeson.
Thanks for this topic, now I have to watch it again tonight.

It was largely ignored since it came out after Private Ryan, but I was blown away by The Thin Red Line...
