OSU Pistol Pete

Need to settle a bet. Anyone know what the Oklahoma OSU mascot Pistol Pete carries and what caliber? Colt, Ruger, Uberti, .45, .44, 38/357, ?? Hopefully Aarond will know!!
 
I don't know, but I doubt very much that it is a real gun of any kind.

The original was a U.S. Marshal named "Pistol Pete" Eaton who rode in some parades in the 1920's (and probably carried a real gun) but I doubt today's mascots do.

Aside from the side by side coach gun you'll have to decide.

Au contraire my friend,,,
The portrayers of Pistol Pete (there are two of them),,,
Carry pistols owned by the Athletic Department at Oklahoma State University.

They get special permission from the University to carry them at events,,,
I'm not sure how they get permission to carry at away games,,,
But at OSU Pete fires plastic cased blanks,,,
And gives the empties to kids.

It's a Ruger Blackhawk with 6.5" or 7" barrel,,,
Chambered in .357 Magnum.

The second picture, the one signed by Pistol Pete, shows the actual pistol the mascot carries,,,
The reason I know this is because I own that picture,,,
I made the rigs for Pete for several years.

The third picture is the first Pistol Pete rig I made,,,
The pistol in the holster is a non-firing replica,,,
It was made for a counselor here at OSU,,,
He was Pete while he was a student.

Good to know and thanks for the info. I guess I found it hard to believe that in today's environment a team mascot would carry a real gun, whether loaded with blanks or not.

Nice work on the holsters.

I too find it incredible that our mascot carries a real firearm,,,
More amazing is that I have seen Pete carrying it at out-of-state games.

Now that my curiosity has been piqued,,,
I think I'll make a few calls and inquire about that.

Yep, I thought Aarond would know. I knew he made the leather rigs Pistol Pete wears. Thanks Aarond, you are a saint in our gunworld.

I sort of won. I said Vaquero in .38.

I think a SEC school has a mascot that carries a black powder Kentucky rifle. Seems there was a stink about him using it hunting awhile back!

It's not an SEC school, it is the West Virginia Mountaineers. The student who is the mascot even uses the rifle to hunt with I believe.
