Original Grips 1973 S&W 19-3

I recently purchased a 1973 S&W 19-3 and am in the process of having re-blued. I bought it with the gripper style Pachmayr 2 piece grips on it and am wondering what grips would have come from the factory on it when new. I would like to get back to as original as possible.

These would have been the factory grips on a Model 19-3.

Some of the early ones had the diamond around the screw hole, but those were being phased out around the time the 19-3 was introduced.

My 19-3 came with that kind of grip.

Depends. If it's a short barreled round butt, it would likely have grips like posted above.

If it's a longer barrel square butt, it could have had Magnas or more likely target grips.

I could have sworn I saw that you bought a 19-3 2.5".

I must have imagined it.

Savit is correct. The square butt models in 4 or 6 inch generally had this kind of grip:

Yes, my 1976 6" Model 19-3 square butt came with target grips like Mike's second picture. Love how they look but I also went to Pachmayr then Hogue rubber grips because they fit me better.

Yup, my Model 19-3 was wearing what were called Oversized Target Grips made of Goncalo Alves when I bought it in 1975.
