Original Garand sniper scope... value ???

In going through my stuff, turns out ( I was told what it was by a pretty knowledgable guy ) I have an original Garand sniper scope...
it's in pretty good condition ( I need to repair one of the hinged caps for the scope adjustment ) any eye deer of the value ??? is it a keeper, or should I sell it ??? ( I have a nice Garand, but it's not a sniper model, & I don't have the original mount... though I do have a B Square mount )

it is a 7/8" tube, & says "telescope M84" on the side with a serial of 295XX, has Weaver Rings, which I also believe are original, it has a little light surface rust ( like it was actually used ), & has the built in sun shade, & a good "T" post cross hair...

should I repair the cap, & clean it up with some steel wool, or leave it as is ( my steel guy could likely do a resto quality repair on the hinged cap )

here are a couple pics...

BTW...is this Weaver model 1X worth repairing the cross hair on it ???

I wouldn't touch it.Restoring it would take away it's charm.

Find out the value and sell it if you wish, but if it were me I would probably keep it and find a nice display case for it.

My steel fabricator is going to attach the one cap ( they were originally silver soldered to the hinge bar )... he'll remove the pin, or the hinge, to resolder, but I think I'll leave the original finish...

the scope is not a family hierloom or anything, so I'll be putting it up for sale at the next gun show...

any "eye deer" as to it's value ??? ( I was told no less than $450.00 )... but that seems high ???

I think $450 might be about right. It's not exactly minty, and I don't think the mounts are original. They're not from and M1D and don't look like the rounded M1C's that I've seen.

there is no manufacturer name on the scope, but the rings are Weaver rings... they may be commercial, as they say 7/8" & Weaver, along with some other business...

MWM,

You have an original....

DON'T try to repair or refinish ANYTHING on the scope. Leave it EXACTLY as it is now if you intend to sell it. Doing anything to try and "fix" it from it's present condition can only hurt it's value to a collector.

Go over to jouster.com and hit the M1 forum. That's where all the die hard M1 collectors hang. They can give you the info you need on value..... and you'll probably get offers too.

Best regards,
Swampy
