Original finish on P226?

I bought a used P226 a couple of months ago and the proofmarks show that it was made in '84. The finish is pretty worn and I was interested in having it redone - but I was wondering what finish came on it. It's sort of a dark matte brown in color - is it just blueing that has aged? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Aged bluing. I would suggest not simply getting it reblued. Maybe check out http://www.arizonaresponsesystems.com for one of their baked on polymer finishes. I'm partial to the satin Metacol3.
