Original Danish military AR-10 worth buying?

Hi guys, I was offered an original AR-10 complete with one waffle mag! by a friend at the paltry price of $400 Canadian (that's about $250 for you yankees). What are the pros and cons of this old beast? What kind of parts compatibility does it have with modern commercial AR-10s? Are there any unique parts that I cannot replace without custom work? I am very interested in this rifle. I love actual military guns in general so this would go great with my GI Garand and 1911A1 and my Enfields :). Any info is appreciated.

Worth having for the novelty value.

I presume you don't have to mess with registration of full auto firearms where you reside, sir. If that were the case with me, I'd not hesitate. Heck, for THAT price, I'd buy it, even having to go through the US$200 tax foolishness. Trouble is, of course, in the USA, there aren't a lot of AR10s which are legally transferable. This results in price on those that are, extremely high.

For the price I'd have to pay for a transferable AR10, I'd spend my money on a full auto which is more fun to shoot. In my limited experience (two AR10s,) the rifle is really punishing to shoot, even in single-fire--the recoil is tremendous, and I'm not particularly sensitive. In full auto, it is practically uncontrolable, except at extremely short range.

When discussing firearms of limited usefulness, I usually conclude with, "But it's fun to shoot, anyway." Can't say that about the AR10, because I'm not into PAIN as a recreational device.

But, for the price, sounds like a bargain.

Best regards,
Johnny
