I don't usually look at O'Reilly, but failed to change channels quickly enough and got drawn in as he was talking about guns.

In his talking points segment he said that 'heavy weapons' like the AK-47 and ammunition, when sold the seller should have to report the sale to the 'feds'. He said that as the law stands people can buy and sell 'heavy weapons' without any notification to the FBI or 'feds'.

I don't know what else he said... couldn't hear him over my yelling at the TV ( lucky for me the neighbors ain't nearby) until I could change to the weather channel.

I could easily be wrong, and I did a quick Internet search (and found no useful def.) but it seems to me that 'heavy weapons' are those that are not portable by a single trooper.

Looks like the army defines heavy weapons as:

ordnance) Any weapon such as a howitzer, mortar, heavy machine gun, and recoilless rifle that is usually part of infantry equipment.

Heavy Weapons

During my time in the army we handled three types of weapons:

Individual Weapon - any weapon (or firearm) that an individual soldier could carry and fire.

Crew Serverd Weapon - any weapon (or firearm) that required two or more soldiers to carry and fire.

Heavy Weapon - any weapon that required a vehicle to transport. Tank, 105mm Howitzer, Bradley, Recoiless Rifle, etc.

An AK-47 does not even begin to meet the definition of a heavy weapon. It just makes the definition of large bore.

That does not surprise me. Most anti gun legislation in the past decade has come from his "side". He is supporting the only candidate for president that has singed into !LAW! Anti gun legislation including a permanent ban on assault weapons in his state not to mention upping fees.

Ps aks are small arms just like 50cal rifles. I don't consider 30 cal to be large bore either.

Watched the segment last night. Knee-jerk reaction on his part. He also through in the machine gun thing. Surprised at the commentary. Usually he has his facts straight, BUT NOT LAST NIGHT. Just a case of flapping ones gums without having all the facts. I guess he has no knowledge of the 4473 along with the NICS check. Also he is ignorant as to other bigger caliber rifles used in hunting and sport. Again we will see the push for magazine high capacity bans to be the talk for a while until the dust settles.

I have never liked O'Reilly after watching him for a few months. He is an arrogant person who does not realize his own lacks. I am not surprised at his reaction.

The term "Assault Rifle" as portrayed by media and politicians is very subjective. One politicians definition can also include automatic 22 rifles.

IMHO, we firearm enthusiasts need to defend the rights to own "Assault Rifles" same as we would the right to own a match grade single shot .22.

All of us should be aware of the Domino Effect and PRECEDENCES as they always applies to law and politics. My grandfather remembered when the income tax law was passed and the politicians promised the rate would never go over 2%. Don't let an assault weapon be the first domino.

Dirty Laundry

Anybody else think of this song by Don Henley when they watch news and talk shows. There's a line that says "I just have to look good, I don't have to be clear." I think it is one of the most accurate statements about media coverage ever made. Don't confuse me with the facts.

Chiefr: Great point with the income tax.

Even if they started legislation against magazine capacity, I would be highly apposed. It would just be a crack in the dam and only the beginning. Give them any foothold and they will force a wedge in it. Give them an inch and they will take a mile. Give them a rope and they'll think they are cowboys. :p

It is truly amazing how pundits have no knowledge of facts. This is true of every political persuasion. I found Pierce Morgan - who was talking to John Lott to be ranting, disgusting twit. Couldn't even be civil.

I congratulate the experts like Lott and Dave Kopel (great guy) who go on these shows and try to be civil in the face of ranting fools.

But it is a touch of lost cause with those who won't listen to evidence. But that is common human failing.

Don't let an assault weapon be the first domino.

Sir, an assault weapon is not and will not be the first domino to fall !!
i have no idea how old most of you all are.., BUT !! way back when, the whiny liberals said, "we just want you to stop smoking on airplanes", ever since they got their demand fulfilled it has been incrementalism ever since on everything from smoking bans, seat belts, helmets, gun control, etc., i recall a time when an American citizen could walk into a gun shop and buy their choice of gun and ammo with no paper work other than handing over the required amount of "greenbacks" and a receipt returned.

whenever we compromise with liberals we LOSE some of our rights and freedoms, incrementalism is their weapon of choice to get what they want.., i know i will be flamed for this, but the NRA has compromised away many of our gun ownership rights, it goes all the way back to owning full auto weapons, the 1934 NFA http://www.atf.gov/firearms/nfa/ then the 1968 gun control act, then the most recent 1994, 10 year "Assault Weapons" ban. i predict that IF things keep going the way things are now we will have an updated version of the NFA to include ALL firearms.., our second amendment rights is in jeopardy folks.., pay attention !!!!!!
