Dear Friend of Gun Rights,
As you know, Measure 5, Ginny Burdick's anti self defense initiative, is
being heavily promoted as a "Police Supported" measure.
Although two of the Chief Sponsors are County Sheriffs, (Dan Noelle of
Multnomah County <noelle@oregonsheriffs.org> and Robert Kennedy of
Jackson County <kennedy@oregonsheriffs.org> ) we still believe that most
sheriffs in Oregon support individual freedoms and privacy.
You can contact your local sheriff and ask him to be on record
supporting you right to protect your family.
All Oregon's sheriffs can be contacted through one location.:
<http://www.oregonsheriffs.org/nav_default.asp>
Simply click on your county and send your sheriff a message asking that
he uphold his oath of office and defend your right to acquire a firearm
to protect yourself and your family.
A sample letter follows.

Dear Sheriff,
As you know, an initiative will be on the November ballot that will
seriously erode my freedom to acquire a self defense firearm.
"Measure 5," sponsored by Portland Senator Ginny Burdick, requires
police permission for a private transfer of a firearm at any "event"
where 25 guns are located.
Measure 5 would also require that the State Police keep a list of
gun owners and the guns they have acquired. Furthermore, it would rely
on the "National Instant Check System," a system which is "down"
frequently and often denies legitimate transfers because of data basing
errors.
As a law abiding gun owner I resent this intrusion into my privacy.
I also believe this measure will do nothing to reduce crime.
Please use your office to speak out against Measure 5 and speak in
favor of the freedom of the people of your county.
Very truly yours,
