Ordered My Springfield 1911 Today

I just returned from ordering a Springfield Armory 1911, blued with adjustable sights. Unfortunately, due to the holiday and Fairfax City's insisting on performing their own background check, I can't pick it up till Friday. I'll be dreaming 1911 for the next seven days.

Anyone have any useful 1911 tricks I need to know?

Yeah - Keep your finger off the trigger untill your sights are on target, and stop grinning so much - your makin people nervous!
:D

PKN,

Nice choice! I'm currently looking at a Springfield Armory "loaded" 1911 in stainless. Its sorta funny, I never thought I'd give the 1911 any serious consideration. I've always been a Sig/HK/Glock man myself.

Guys, when you get that big stainless 1911 in you hands... fire it a few times... pull the target back and check it out. You will know why the 1911 has such a large following.

George,

HEH, I'm not going to doubt you. However, I'm stuck with two VERY hard choices.

Choice #1: Springfield "loaded" 1911 Stainless.

Choice #2: Sig Sauer P220

Out of all the .45s I've fired, I'd have to say that the Sig P220 is probably the sweetest of the entire lot. I've fired Colt Series 70s and 80s (excellent), HK USP45 (Tactical), Kimber 1911, and last, but definately not least, the Sig P220.

I haven't had the chance to test drive a "loaded" Springfield, but I've held many. From what I gather, Springfield produces a quality product. I just love the Springfield V16!!! WOW!!! Awesome gun, never shot one though, but boy is it beautiful!! The reason why its a tough choice for me is because I know how the Sig feels & shoots.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Jim

BTW, purchasing BOTH is the route I definately plan to take. However, I'm a resident of California, and one handgun a month is all I'm allowed :( Which one should I buy first?

Just got my Springfield Stainless Loaded yesterday, Going to the range on Sunday. But just holding it, I understand why it has a great following. I paid 630.00+TAX+NIX. Was it a good price. Should I get the Mags from them for 8.95 each?

PKN This will have to wait until you actualy recieve the gun, but try shooting with your strong hand thumb on top of the safety. This is assuming it is a "Loaded" model, and has the extended combat safety. It felt kinda odd to me at first, but I since some of the people here suggested it, I tried it, and it really does help in stabilizing the gun, especially for follow up shots.

I don't really know why I'm posting because I don't have a thing useful to say that hasn't already been said. But....I was out at the range today and fired a couple hundred rounds at steel plates outa my Springfield 45 acp 1911 and I just can't keep my mouth shut. Since I got that pistol all of my others lay on the shelf. Except for my .22s of course but that's different.

Springfield makes great stuff. I have an SAR 8, SAR 4800, and the 1911. All are teriffic.

Must be a Springfield kind of week.

I just traded a CZ-75 and a Buckmark for a "Loaded" and Ceiner(sp?) .22 slide...

Hope to get out tomorrow to try 'em out. Plus I gotta try out the Guide Gun with the Ashley ghost rings.

Looks to be a 45 caliber morning!

I love my SA loaded gov't model. While I won't get rid of the rest, it has taken the prized position among my favorites as THE favorite.

I love my SA 1911. The new loaded models seem like a good value.

Fairfax City - where did you buy it AA guns?

I hope you (and all other Virginians) join VCDL ( www.vcdl.org ).

NVCDL,

Yep, AA Guns. Was going to buy from Galyans but they failed to return a phone call regarding price, and lost their chance at getting my money for this gun. Blue Ridge wouldn't give me a price, and wanted $900 for a comparable Kimber. Never did find out what Clark Brothers wanted.
