Ordered a new Remington 870 Police order number 4421, does anyone else have this gun, I appreciate all opinions!
Thanks
Mick

nice mine is a clone of it...I dont like the bead sites so I added a HiViz pop on stip for about $20 bucks. I think the 870 is probably the most popular on this board...and you got the parkerizing to.

Mick... the 870P is all over the place.. you should get a bunch of replies. May I ask what the price is and any idea which wholesaler your dealer ordered it from, and if the wholesaler has them in stock?

It would be nice if Remington would make a field model with the upgrades that the Police gun gets...I really don't care much for any of the 'sight' systems on the Police/HD guns...my dream gun is an 870 with all of the Police upgrades in a 21" vent rib barrel. IMHO the vent rib is the best 'quick sighting' system on a SG.

mathman... what about getting an 870P and then buying a second barrel with the vent-rib set-up you prefer? Seems like that would be the easiest solution...

DHart, I ordered from a local gunshop & I know his distributor had these in stock when he placed the order, If I can find out who the distributor he is using I will post it price was $499.00 + tax.
Thanks

two problems with that...

first, remington doesn't make a 21" vent rib that you can buy alone...

second, the finish on the 870P and the extra barrel would be different (yuck)...

hmmm....... what would be your primary purpose for the shotgun? Wouldn't 21" be a bit too short for a field gun?

Getting a VR barrel to shorten is easily done. You could even have it threaded for tubes of choice.

What is the finish on the 870P? Blue? Parked? Something else?

Mike

PS. Congrats on the order Mick1.

It is too short for many people, but I prefer the shorter barrels for portability in the field. The shorter barrel doesn't affect how I shoot...they all 'swing' the same to me. But the vent rib helps me tremendously with the speed of target aquisition.

From what I have heard in these forums, it is a parkerized finish which is of a higher quality than the bead blasted finish on the 870 Express.

No doubt that parkerized is much nicer than the blue-over-bead-blast Express finish. Unless there is something special about Remington's parkerizing process, it should be easy to get that VR barrel shortened and parked to match to build your "dream" 870.
Please post pics when you're done. It sounds like it will be quite sweet.
I also like short barrels although I am forcing myself to learn to shoot my old '55 WM with a 28" plain (no VR) barrel. It feels more classic and some ranges will not let me shoot with a 20" barrel. But I still like to take my 1100 21" and 870 20" guns out for some hand-tossed clay bustin'. It feels like I'm shooting a carbine.

What I might do is buy the 870 Turkey Express...it comes with a 21" barrel and an extra full choke. The chokes can be replaced, of course. It's not a Police gun, but I'm sure it will last longer than I will (and I'm only 34 years young). ;)

The express is just not as smooth and consistant as the 870P. The 870P has a short length pull and is beefer. I won't even go into the plastic trigger guard thing.

That said the 4421 is a great gun. What are you using it for? Home defense all around shot gun?

If you are looking at going the tactical route look into the Knoxx Specopps

http://www.knoxx.com/NewStyleKnoxx/Products/SpecOpsStock.html

This is a pistol grip stock and recoli reducer in one. You can shoot magnum shells all day long with this thing.

You bought a great version of a great shot gun enjoy.

If you've seen my many posts i've been deciding between the REM 870P #4407 or the MAX.
their prices are kinda pricey, example:
California Police Equipment
REM 870P MAX $860
REM 870P #4407 $519
My local GS(Four Seasons)
REM 870P MAX $760
REM 870P #4407 $469

Duncan's Gun Works in San Marcos (northern San Diego County) wants over $1200 for an 870P Max.

They don't even have good hours.
