Options for AK rear peep sight

I have a Williams mid-receiver aperture and find it awkward. Would like to get something like Galil rear sights but that is expensive ($125 plus welding time to fix up the void left by the original sight). Would it be possible to simply weld a two-aperture flip sight (A2 or similar) onto the receiver cover and adjust windage and elevation on the front? Any better ideas?

well, there are the tang peeps that you see on lever guns and sharps type rifles. mounted to the stock just before the reciever.

I would advise against mounting it on the reciever cover, since it snaps in, it probly moves slightly during fire.

What about making a mount that is attached to the side of the reciever? would be simple and fairly rigid.

Well, this is a more complicated choice, but it'll give you the option of a scope too.

Go to Nightvision Web . That link will take you to the Ultra Sight:

Under their accessories, you'll find the mount you need for it. The mount should also work for scopes, if you so desire.

With this rig, you can keep your Williams on there.

If you find a rear sight you like, I'd like to buy that Williams if you wanna sell it.

Oleg: Here is what I did. I have an SAR 3 and wanted to know what a rear peep would do for it. I took a used dustcover from a 7.62 AK, and found that it fit very tight with no play. (The SAR3 cover had play in it when attached) You need a dustcover that fits tight and in the same way each time or the sights will change zero each time you remove it. Next, I removed the factory rear blade sight. Then I took an epoxy putty (don't remember the name) and built up a platform on the back of the dustcover for an M1 carbine adjustable sight to be attached. It worked and the epoxy is surprising strong. I misjudged how much height I needed to build up for the rear to function with the front sight. At maximum elevation the SAR3 is on at 100 yards, and I haven't gone back and built up the platform more. The rear peep and increased sight radius did improve the accuracy of the SAR3, but it is not equal to my AR or Dawoo K-2 by any means. The Kobra sight is a lot less hassle for increased accuracy provided the mounting bar on the receiver is aligned with the bore. Unfortunately, many are not as they are shipped from the factory.
