Optimum .223 barrel length?

What is the optimal barrel length for a .223 varmit rifle? I have heard several conflicting ideas. Some say 24 inches for more velocity and to keep the muzzle blast further from your ears. Others have said that most .223 loadings burn all their powder in a 20" barrel and a 24" barrel would only slow the bullet down. I will be shooting factory loaded, 55 gr or less ammuntion. What is the does everyone recommend?

Thanks everyone.

I have two varmint rifles in 223 one has a 22 inch bbl and the other has a 24 incher. both shoot groups very tight , sub moa, the only difference I've found is the 24 incher has slightly faster velocities than the 22 incher. usually about 45 fps faster. hope this helps you.
