Optima 2000 on AR15?

I just picked up an AR-15 and was wondering if anyone here has used an Optima 2000 sight on an AR-15 (or anything else for that matter). I post this here because my AR is the gun I am considering putting it on and I would like feedback on that combo if possible.

Thanks in advance...

I haven't had a chance to use one in real life, but I am really impressed with the reviews the sight has received. I am a red dot FREAK, and the Optima is really appealing to me due to the small size.

i've got a couple right now--one is sitting on top of a 3X9 scope i use in 3 gun stuff--use the large dot for up close stuff and the 3X9 to really reach out and touch something..i think the other is on a glock...my shooting buddy has an optima with small dot as his sight on a carry handle..works OK but personally i would use it in a play situation only---for a SHTF situation i feel they are a little light for the task---my SHTF guns run aimpoints and reflex 2s...but for the cost of them you can get 2 or 3 optima's from Midway.....Dick

I almost got one for my new bushmaster but the mount that Graf and Sons had listed was not see through for the iron sights so I didn't do it. They are cool little redots. I will probably still get one for my ruger .22

I`ve never seen one on an AR but they`re becoming increasingly popular with SWAT teams on shotguns and MP5s. A relative of mine has them on a Ruger .22 pistol and a Taurus .22 pump, hardly tactical guns but the sights work great and hold their zero even when they`re banged around some. Marcus

KA3N,

Additional thanks for the link to Botach! They appear to have some really good deals going on other items I have been shopping for! :)

Try the Maryland AR15 Site. There are several reviews of dot sights for the AR15. I ordered a Reflex II today.

Botach has good prices. However, I have seen several threads about Botach's poor service. I'd run some searches here and at Glock Talk before I'd order.

I've seen all the negative posts on Glock Talk too (I have two Glocks), but I've ordered from them twice in the past year and never had a problem.

On my first order, I called to verify that what I wanted was in stock, and then ordered it on their website. The second time I just took my chances, ordered on the website and received my order in three days.

There is an option on the order page to email you if it's not in stock, but I have no idea if they actually do this. I have received shipping confirmation emails from them though...

Viper,

I have a C-More Tactical on my AR15, and the lens is only about an inch round - the same size as the Optima (which is kind of square).

I may buy one anyway to play with, mountiing it on one of my Glocks or possibly on a shotgun (a real test of recoil handling!) $115 is a great price, and they charge around $6 for UPS ground (a little high, but acceptable).

B-Square makes many different mounts for the Optima.

Added: Ouch! I just ordered one from Botach, UPS shipping to PA was $8.46 - that's high for such a small package!

I used to have a Bushmaster V-Match Carbine (traded it for a DCM rifle) with a Bushnell Holosight on it. Lemme tell ya...that sight had extremely fast target acquistion! I could make some really quick shots with it. I liked how it "painted" the reticle on the target. Another thing I liked is that the reticle didn't have to be centered in the viewing window for it to be on target, if the reticle was on the target, that's where it would hit. It was a really cool combo and I never had any problems with it at all. Make sure you get the newer more compact model if you decide to go out shopping.
