Well, I finally got my .308, now I'm shopping for Optics for varmint/long range target shooting. I want a scope with some reticle that'll have range marks or MOA marks etc. so when you're sighted in you have diff marks for longer ranges.

I figure since I spent $550.00 on the rifle (new) the optics may cost a little more than that?

Any suggestions on a brand or model I should look at?

I sound like a broken record!

I have a Leupold 6.5-20x50mm Long Range Target scope on my VS in .308. Great scope. Great gun. The scope is about $630-720 depending on where you get it and whether it has mil dots or not. Well worth the money.

Got the same scope except in matte black. It's great. I bought it from a dealer on the net who was going out of business. New in the box for $450, so there are deals out there. If I remember correctly, Leupold charges about $80 to put mil dots on an existing scope. Am I right?

I know some of you will :barf: at my suggestion, and I am by no means knocking Leupold, but how about the Tasco SS? (mil-dot reticle only.)Any review that I have read says that it is absolutely comparable to the Leupold in every respect. In fact, some of them liked it better! They only come in a fixed power configuration: 10x, 16x or 20x. However, when using a mil-dot reticle scope, the mil-dot's are calibrated at one given power setting anyway.(usually 10x) Springfield Armory scopes are the only variables I know that compensate the mil-dot reticle for different power settings.
Anyway, at $299, the Tasco SS is one hell of a scope. I know I love mine! :D
