Oppose Federal Land Grabs!
Immediate Action Requested:
Contact your Senators and urge them to oppose, even filibuster, the latest attempt at a federal land grab -- CARA -- the Conservation and Reinvestment Act, currently known as S. 25. Also, ask your friends, neighbors, and associates to do the same.
For talking points see "How Feds Fuel the Fire" at http://www.thenewamerican.com/tna/2000/09-25-2000/vo16no20_fires.htm#fire
Summary:
With tragic irony, the "earth-friendly" environmental policies of the Clinton administration (and its predecessors) bear direct responsibility for the wildfires now raging across the Western United States. Yet, at a time when federal government land policy should be re-evaluated, Congress may move ahead to increase federal land grabs!
The House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed new federal land grab legislation, the Conservation and Reinvestment Act (CARA) in May. The legislation pours billions of dollars into states (in exchange for political support!) to buy up private property for the supposed purpose of land conservation and urban park restoration. Now, the battle moves to the Senate.
Status:
The Senate may vote on this legislation at any time during the session remaining before the November elections. If voted on, it is likely such a bill would pass. However, a vote could be delayed if enough Americans protest the measure. Supporters of the federal land grab would then be forced to re-introduce the legislation during the next Congress.
